Filed in time for what? Are they still trying to get under the cap?

Whatever the escalators on his contract were for guaranteed money.

can you imagine the melt down if jerry had messed up like the bronco's did. this is one of the worst screw ups ever

No doubt. I'm sure since it's Elway they will glaze over it.

The broncos didn't mess up, Dumervil's agent did. It had to be sent back to the league by 4 and the agent didn't fax the paperwork back to the Broncos until several minutes past 4.

they should have been on the phone with him. the agent is not the one asking for his player to take a pay cut, the team was. the agent now gets another commission. you can't just fax it and assume his agent is gonna get it doen, you have to follow up

There is no magic button on a phone that makes the other guy get it done in time.

They'll resign him

maybe not -- because he didn't get the paperwork in on time, the Broncos are taking a 4.8 mill cap hit - this is about 3 mill more than his bonus would have counted for if the deal didn't expire. I don't think the team is in much of a mood to honor the original renegotiating at this point as he just cost them substantial space against the cap

Yes, you can just fax it and assume his agent is going to get it done. These are supposedly professionals, not children.

...but it's POSSIBLE they did it on purpose. Maybe he had a change of heart and wants to look around after all: doubt it but anything is possible. SUre did screw the Broncs though as it now has salary cap ramifications per the NFL Network. Now, how bad those ramifications are I don't know: will it hamstring them in re-upping him? I dunno, but he's a VERY solid player IMO. Pretty similar to Spencer in age and production I do believe.

I noted the salary cap ramifications earlier.

He's costing them an extra 3+ mill against the cap this year - his new salary would be on top of that.

id bet he signs long term in the $8mill per area

Apparently Dumervil is also willing to do 8 million a year.

Even if these two players were equal, it would still be in our best interest to try and sign dumervil while simultaneously trading spencer for whatever we get. We can get some pick out of it, but in reality Dumervil is the must better player.

......I missed that:star:

Amazing that people don't read the entire thread when it is a relatively short one.

This is a big screw-up by either the team or the agent. Not clear on that yet.

Costs the Broncos 5m in dead money. It's going to be tricky no matter how it pans out if the Broncos try to re-sign him.

I didn't even know they used faxes in the NFL anymore. From what I could tell, everyone uses online sigs to do contract these days.

Why would teams trade draft picks to us when there's a better alternative available on the open market?
