LOL

Every time I get ready to move back east or southeast, I realize I'm Barbecueing in January by the pool while watching the news of someone shoveling 30inches off their hood of their car or getting hit with a tornado or 20 straight days of rain. And Florida is where the carnies meet rejects. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/florida-man/ :)

True story I went to NYC for a week in Nov for work. Caught a plane from LAX at 330Pm on a sunday. Wore shorts and a t-shirt and took no coat. Had to buy a hoodie and sweatpants at the airport because I checked my bag with Jeans and suit.

Wife wont even go to the grocery now if it is in the 50s. Got waaaayyyy soft I admit it

San Francisco. Moderate 365 days a year.

It is pretty much the whole point. Dez wants the most he can get with injury protections whether it would hurt the team or not. Dallas loves Dez but they have to think of the whole team. The sticking point is the guaranteed money. Why should Dallas assume all the risk? There are other contract options and other players available. If Dez won't share any of the risk Dallas will tag him , maybe twice and move on.

You are correct on all accounts.

The team is under no obligation to pay Dez a long term contract if they do not want to. They can simply tag him twice (the max allowed under the CBA) to retain his services.

Likewise, the player is also under no obligation to agree to a long term contract if the team is unwilling to meet his demands. If Dez feels he should be the highest paid WR in the game, then he has 2 seasons under the tag to prove it. After that, Dallas cannot stop him from going to another team that will pay him what he thinks he deserves.

I know the saying gets old, but this really is a business and both sides are looking out for their own best interest when it comes to contracts. Dallas wants to limit the guaranteed money so if Dez gets hurt or if his production declines, they can get out of the contract. Likewise, Dez wants to maximize his earning potential while he can. As a player, the next hit may be your last so you never take anything for granted.

A contract will be agreed to when Dallas feels they are protected in terms of guaranteed money and Dez feels he is protected in case of a severe injury. The hard part is compromising to get to the magical number that both sides can live with.

Dez has more leverage at the moment. He can shop for a deal. If someone offers him 1 years $50M guarantee, then why should he refuse that just to be loyal to dallas and assume some injury risk? The market can/will dictate

Sure dallas gets 2 #1s, but as far as other players, the devil you know is sometimes better than the devil you dont. At this point, dallas can assume injury risk or take skill, injury, etc risk by drafting a replacement. The tag also bears holdout risk and a higher cap hit, which can lead to other undesirble maneuvers.

If I played professional football and someone told me I could get $40M guaranteed vs $13M you have to take that in that sport.

If I own a team I want to give $0 gauranteed

San Francisco. Moderate 365 days a year.

Our HQ is in SF.....weather is 100% more stable in SoCal. Fog wind and mist is too many elements for me :)

Trying to maneuver a move to Newport Beach or La Jolla/SD. LA with less traffic

I love SF but I wouldn't call the weather moderate. What was it Mark Twain said, oh yeah, the coldest winter he ever faced was a summer in San Francisco.

Yeah, but head 20 mins south of that microclimate, and you're in moderate weather all year long. Or 20 mins north, to Napa, for that matter. Can't beat the Bay Area as a place to live, if you can, you know, afford to actually live there.

Try Hawaii. Not hot. Not cool (well most places) but JUST right. Great fishing, spear fishing, snorkling, other water sports (I'm too old for most of that), and SCUBA. Took a 1000+lb blue marlin last week or so right off the coast. I lub it.

Great place. Qingdao almost as good but the fog comes in during the morning. Does get wintery for 2+ mons every year which sucks. The rest is mostly spring except for August.

Whenever the Cowboys get into a difficult negotiation I always assume the player is being unreasonable, because the Jones twins don't blink at signing big checks.

Yeah it averages in the 60s with no humidity. Feels amazing. Shorts and t shirt weather.

And then of course our warmest months are October and September. Where it's in the low 70s.

And that's the spread. Year round.

I'm fortunate. In finance. In a high rise with no roommates amazing views and a 10 minute walk to the office.

Come and see me. Or we can swap places for a week. Love SF and have some friends there to buy me dinner. :)

Condon is absolutely correct from Dez' standpoint. He can stand to make more money now than if he signs a long term deal...barring injury of course. Condon and Dez should look at it as signing a two year deal for $28.6mil guaranteed and not even entertain a long term deal in Dallas any longer. Take the Tag for two seasons, put up monster numbers then hit free agency at 28yrs old like Suh is doing. Dez now stands to potentially make exponentially more guaranteed money now.

$28.6mil from Dallas for 2015 and 2016. Then probably over $40mil guaranteed on the open market in 2017. No way Dez was seeing over $60mil guaranteed before this...not bad at all. I just would advise him not to entertain any long term deals from Dallas until 2017 at earliest and by then I would probably just move on if I were Dez.

As a fan, I hoped the sides would agree to a long term deal because the cap hit for the tag limits the team in a particular year. But, as a person who negotiates deals for athletes regularly...this may be a blessing in disguise for Dez as long as he can get over the "Cowboys for life" mantra.

There is no tmrw, you get all u can Now...

I think we're seeing a different Jones.
