Dez creating more separation this year

So your contention is that anytime something is recorded as a target that it is a legitimate opportunity for the receiver to make a play?

Dak had to spike a pass into Zeke's feet on Sunday to avoid a sack...that's a target. Are you arguing that was an opportunity for Zeke?

My "contention" is this:

5th highest paid receiver in the game

Tied for 9th in targets

43rd in receiving yards

Everything those numbers add up to is bad.

That's my "contention". Maybe now it will sink in for people.[/QUOTE]

Do you understand the selection bias you employed by using six games to define the quality of a five-year contract?

I never brought length of contract into the conversation. I'm talking about there here and now.

Is that where you now choose to reach?

So your contention is that you only look at numbers and not the reality behind them?

Your statement heavily implied that targets were the same as opportunities. You're still bolding the targets line as if they are representative of legitimate opportunities. Do you, or do you not, hold that targets and opportunities are the same?

The numbers are the "reality". You can choose to handle that "reality" or not.

They are a clear indicator of "opportunity". Anything else is fan accuses and grasping at straws.

You now seek to impugn the measurement and statistic of targets because it paints a favorite player of yours in an unfavorable light. Again, shoot the messenger.

A common tactic.

How separation is calculated - "The distance (in yards) measured between a WR/TE and the nearest defender at the time of catch or incompletion."

Lol, yeah that's not what we talk about when we say "Dez can't get separation". What we mean is "can't get separation by the time Dak needs to decide to throw the ball" not "use of body and strength later on to get separation from the target".

Please explain how they are a clear indicator of opportunity. Sounds like a lot of assumptions to me.

You'd think if it was a clear indicator, then the number of incompletions and the number of drops would be similar

And numbers are a tiny, tiny part of the reality.

Yeah, this only accounts for times Dez was thrown the ball, not considering the separation or lack thereof when Dak decides not to throw to Dez. With that said, Dez is one of the most targeted WRs in the league.

Now maybe if Garret/Linehan's "scheme" allowed for the use of the non-catching TE's to rub Dez's guys on a horiz route...................steal something from the Pats playbook just once........Dez's measured separation might be top 10

I understand your side of the argument. But to be fair, Dez signed that deal when Romo was still here and the Cowboys were throwing the ball a lot more. This team has become more run-oriented since the Dak and Zeke era began. Plus, Dak doesn't force feed the ball to any specific player.

If anything, we should applaud Dez for not being selfish and complaining about his diminished role in this offense. Just my opinion.

Yeah. He could be acting like the clown in Pittsburgh. Well, maybe not!!

That drop he had last game is part of why I don’t defend him anymore. Enough is enough. I don’t hate him but I don’t really care about him anymore.

All receivers have the same issue.

It's not as if Dez only gets opportunities on more difficult deep routes. Butler is the one that always gets the deep targets and his catch rate is very good.

If it was just a few percentage points difference then maybe you could find some legit excuses but Dez is so much worse than the other Cowboys receiving options, it's not even funny.
