1st off that is a big assumption that Cleveland would pay 17 mill

Sure it is. Not one I made, but a huge assumption.

I can't fathom all this hubbub going very far though. Losing Murray, and now Dez threatening a hold out? Too much at stake. Too many improvements on this team for us to falter in other areas. The window is open and we need to lunge for it. Just hoping all this posturing is just that. posturing. And we get this all cleared up pronto.

Show me posts from anyone on this board including you, him or a quote from an expert who did have confidence in the team heading into last season? Everyone is acting like I'm the only one who got it wrong last season when everyone got it wrong. You're asking why everyone should expect anything different from me now? Are you serious just look at this team compared to this time last season....duh! Things are different from me and everyone else heading into this season due to a number of reasons including how well the team performed in 2014. At this time last season the Cowboys were coming off their 3rd straight 8-8 season and had lost several key members from a defense that was the 3rd worst statistically in NFL history in 2013.

The Cowboys had lost 2 key players to free agency and Sean Lee for the season to injury plus Romo was coming off back surgery and was very limited. Heading into the 2015 season instead of losing key players on defense the team has added some key players like Hardy and had what appears to be a very solid draft. Romo isn't having to rehab his back heading into this upcoming season he's had a full offseason of work with no limitations so naturally things look a lot brighter for the team heading into 2015.

Exactly.

We also have an O-Line we can look forward to.

The franchise tag becomes FULLY GUARANTEED whenever the player signs it. The franchised player has until week 10 to sign it and will receive the FULL amount of the tag. The only exceptions exist where a team rescinds the franchise tag making the player an unrestricted free agent or if the player is deemed to not maintain himself in excellent condition physically.

Dez will earn $13mil if he signs the tag whether he plays 16 games, 15 games, 10 games or 6 games. That will impact the team in wins and losses hence why he is threatening to holdout. The only way he can lose 750k game checks is if he signs the tender THEN decides to holdout. No way Condon allows that to occur.

This is 100% wrong.

The CBA Specifically states "For the purposes of this Article, “Salary” means the total of the Para-graph 5 Salary (reduced proportionately if the contract is entered into after the first regular season game)" This is pulled right out of the franchise tag section of the CBA.

He looses money. Dez has very little leverage. Once July 15 hits, he can't negotiate with any team. Once the season starts, every week he misses he looses money. Period. Once he signs the tender, then he will get the prorated amount for each game he misses with no possible way to make up the lost games. He gains nothing by sitting out. NOTHING.

Thanks Slick, for the education.

I did not know that. That certainly puts things in a different perspective. I was under the assumption that he started losing his game checks right away.

No worries at all. I hope things don't come to that and a deal gets done. A fair one...

This is my understanding as well. Although I'm no guru on the new CBA.

dez can sit up to 10 games, he can also pick and choose which games he will play in lol.
The only reason to sit out is to maybe make them know that a franchise tag in 2016 might not be a good idea.
He could play less games an that means less risk of injury, and he could still make millions, if he played only 8 games.

It would be funny reading here each week that dez says he is playing or not playing.

If he just signs the tag contract, and plays all games and plays well, then the cowboys might just tag him again next year.
if he sits out some games, then they wont do it next year.

Exactly.

We also have an O-Line we can look forward to.

The addition of Collins on the OL and Gregory on defense both of which had first round grades is another reason everyone is anticipating the season not dreading it like this time last season.

And that is why the NFL and NFLPA agreed on the franchise tag. Dez can get upset he can ask for some ridicules contract but in the end he is not going anywhere this season or next. I fully expect Dez to be here and a hold out does nothing to help his cause. As for Dallas yes you want to win but doing stupid deals will hurt them, too often teams shoot the wad for 1 run at a SB and when they fail they not only pay for it that year they pay for it longer as other top players entering FA end up getting released. I want Dez to get a fair deal that pays him in the top 5 WR, he will be a very wealthy man but wanting some unrealistic deal to claim some highest paid player status I am against.
I think if Dallas wants a 1 year window, then do it myself I think you end up shutting the window on yourself with bad deals.

I don't think Dallas would operate with TWill as a lead receiver. They have 3-4 WRs plus Witten to spread it around to with no alpha dog.
The risk wouldn't be moving the ball--they do that just fine--but there could be real risk when they absolutely have to have a dominant guy for a redzone mismatch TD.

In this case I think it'd be time for Escobar to show something on a regular basis.

Jason Garrett on if he's concerned about WR Dez Bryant saying he's considering skipping season opener: "It doesn't concern me one bit."

Thank you "slick325" and "bkight13" for your franchise tag knowledge.

I found this article dated March 2nd that is actually an open letter to Dez from a former sports agent. It is very informative on the way Dez and his agent Tom Condon is handling the protracted contract talks and the franchise tag. I recommend this to anyone that really wants to understand how this all works. I want to believe this won't get messy, but it really could.

with losing demarco murry and if dez Bryant holds out you can pretty much say 8 and8 or worse I was feeling pretty good about this team not so much now. because I am sure hardy will miss at least 6 to 10 games, so yes the cowboys have problems

I have this feeling, after so much going well last year - without expectations, that this year, with distractions and increased expectations, we will see 9-7.

Maybe but then again Cowboys have had big distraction in years they won SB's. lol Dating back to a pouting Duane Thomas who wanted out.

They want him to play, he doesn't have to, that is the definition of leverage.

He has to if he wants to get paid. 800k a week isn't chump change, especially for a guy who hasn't exactly made the best financial choices thus far.
