Dez: Vikings won't let that happen

Everyone brings up the Walker trade, but I highly doubt there is anyone left in the FO of vikings that was even around during that trade. That trade is more lore than substance now.

If anything, it would be the opposite of the Walker trade. This time, they are giving up the player and getting back a 1st round draft pick.

At what point do the Vikings stop having leverage? What I mean is, at what point does paying a 30 yr old RB $13+ million who doesn't want to be on your team become a bad idea?

What if Peterson plays without full effort? What if he becomes a distraction in the locker room? What if he under performs? What if he gets "hurt"?

Are the Vikings assuming that Peterson will sell out on the field and off it help them?

It seems to Peterson still has cards to play in his hand. At some point he just may not be worth it.

Peterson has all the leverage IMO. MINN has to pay him 13m or release him. He wins either way.

I think this is why some people still think he comes to Dallas.

I think the smarter play for the Vikes would have been to try and trade him for even a 2nd rounder and draft a RB.

Personally I dont think Peterson for $13 million is a smart deal even if he wants to play for you. I think the Vikes are letting pride get in the way of reason.

Unless the rules have changed, he could hold out until Week 10 and still accrue a year against his contract. So he could certainly do that if the rule is still in place.

I'm not sure what to think about the fact that our QB was lobbying to resign Demarco and now our WR is making it known how good we would be if we had Peterson.

It would feel a little better if our stars believed we were good enough at RB that when asked about Peterson they would say that we have guys on the team now that are going to surprise some people.

Our owner mentions he would trade away a future number 1 for a player like Peterson.

I wish this was resolved already. It sounds like the talk will never stop. I can see after the first game if we don't come out with a big rushing day all the questions in the locker room being about Peterson again.

Was Peterson ever mentioned by Jerry Jones or did he just say he would trade a 1st round pick in the right situation?

Yes...get him or don't...just get this crap over with cause I am tired of seeing the crap.

Welp, buddy, the Vikings are going to wait until preseason when players start getting hurt. They want to drive up the price. So it's going to be hanging over this team until then.

Right situation, but I think the context is obvious by now.

Dallas' problem is Minnesota knows a 1st round pick is virtually a second round pick from the Cowboys. They'd rather have a 1st from a team that will finish middle of the pack. They don't want to give up Peterson for a pick that's beyond the 28th pick in the draft.

However, the dregs of the league don't have any more use for Peterson than Minnesota, so therein lies the issue. They want to entice a 1st from a team that's fighting for a wild card, but I'm not sure who that would be. Most of those teams have a lead back.

The Vikings don't want to give him to Green Bay, Chicago, or Dallas. So Dallas is going to have to give more than other teams. More like a 1st, 2nd, and 5th.

June 1st cuts have been moved to May 12th, if Peterson is going to be released, it'll be tomorrow. If he's not, he's in Minny to stay.

As for things being patched up, Peterson's agent was extremely hostile and instigating just a month ago; he's now discussing how supportive Minny has been while still saying he believes Peterson needs a better contract (Can you believe that?). But yes, things seem to be calming down.

But at the end of the day, I think the determining factor is that Minny wants to get out of the contract and I don't think any team is going to take on that contract. But this is just opinion, there could be some stupid team that gives up high draft picks for him or he stays in Minnesota and every is fine.

I don't think that his agent has AP's interest in mind. If AP does get a new contract he gets paid. But I doubt that AP is that dumb to rework his contract so that its cap friendly and he gets less. But who knows. Stranger things can happen.

I think it would have the opposite effect. It was one thing for Jones to say he would consider making a move under the right circumstances than for Dez to suggest it would not be in their best interest.

I think there are many reasons why the Vikings wouldn't want to trade him to us.

1) They don't want Peterson to get what he wants.
2) They don't want to strengthen one of their chief competitors.
3) They don't want to turn us into a dynasty.
4. They're still bitter about the Walker trade.
5. They might think with their defense now, they have an opportunity with Peterson.

If waht Dez Bryant says influences whether the Vikings would make a trade....would say a lot about the incompetence of that front office. I doubt this is an issue.

I'm not saying it will be the deciding factor, but perception is an important thing in life. The vikings don't want to make a move that is going to be largely lambasted. Even if this plants the slightest doubt, it isn't appreciated.

If the Cowboys wanted to get Peterson, my thoughts are they would have already made the move.

I think the following things might be factors though

I disagree completely. The Cowboys have played this off-season absolutely perfectly and it's been from a measure of patience. When the entire NFL went on the annual fire sale (FA) the usual Mensa crowd around here was going out of their minds. "This front office is so stupid". "Why aren't we doing anything?!" Lo and behold, the Cowboys played it slow and got EXACTLY the guy they had targeted when the off-season began (Hardy) and by being patient (and not bidding against themselves) they got him on the lowest risk/highest reward type of deal that they could have possibly struck.

Fast forward to the draft. Same ********. Keyboard experts slamming every pick. Screaming to trade up for Gregory when he still 6-8 picks away. The Cowboys sat still and didn't give up a single pick to land (arguably) the best pure pass rusher in this past draft.

The Cowboys are going to let AP do the dirty work and when the franchise is tired of his act, Dallas is going to swoop in and take care of business (if in fact AP ends up here). I, personally, don't think its going to happen. But, if it does, it will be because the Cowboys (once again) played it perfectly.

Why would he sit out?? He won't get paid.

He doesn't care about accruing service time.

He either gets 13m from MINN or gets released.

Right, like here's Peterson and our 1st rd pick. Plus, we'll eat his contract too.

He is using reverse psychology. By saying the Vikings won't let it happen......then the Vikings will say, oh, we will show him and prove him wrong....they will call JJ and offer a trade.....

The Cowboys shouldn't offer any more than a 2nd rounder... offering multiple picks is a no-no, especially when you can grab someone like Chris Johnson without giving up ANY picks. Peterson doesn't want to be there, so sooner or later Minnesota's hand will be forced. Just sign him whenever Minnesota eventually lets him go.

He could sit to force Minnesota's hand, it's the only leverage he has.
