DFW Sportsbeat - Looks like Marty B and MBIII will be traded if...

Marty B needs to go. But Barber for a 5th? a 5th? cmon.

He's going to get $7M this season alone. Why would you give up any more than a 5th for a guy who has been hurt the last two seasons, probably has a short shelf life because of his running style, and is pulling down that kind of cash?

I mean assuming you're not Al Davis.

I like Barber and would feel a little cheated with a fifth as well, but the market will not fetch much more than that. If the idea is to move him (and his salary) and get more flexibility in this draft, that is probably about what could be hoped for. Backs are a dime a dozen, especially if they show they are not bell cows.

I think Bennett, Spears, and Barber are all on the block come draft day. I think there are a lot of prospects we like, I think we want Alualu and Allen in the 2nd and would sacrifice Bennett to get one of them. I'm wagering there are a few tight ends we really like in this draft and can be found in the 4-5th rounds, making Bennett expendable.

I like the guy, but I'll be happy with whatever we get for him. I think he's just a progress stopper for Choice at this point IMO.

Well, $4 million of that came in a bonus that we paid in March. So the new team would probably only have to pay him his $3.86 million salary. A fifth does seem kind of low for Barber, but that's probably fair value.

Ah, thought it hadn't been paid yet. That's still a lot though, and the numbers go up next year.

Actually that puts a huge damper on the rumor anyway, doubt Jerry is going to trade someone he just dished out that bonus to.

I think that's why he paid it, so he can get a pick for him. Paying 4$ million for a 4-5th rounder, but it was better than the alternative.

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking as well.

Brady Tinker has never been a guy in the know as far as I have followed DFW Sportsbeat.

So I don't buy this at all.

Will throw up the video later tonight.

I would do barber and our 1st for earl thomas :D

Wow, yeah I was also under the impression that we hadn't paid it yet...that certainly makes his $3mil base salary much more attractive for any potential suitors.

$3mil isn't bad at all for a powerback like Barber who can be used in short yardage, and goal-line situations. I would love to keep him here, but we have two very talented, younger backs playing behind him that deserve their chance to shine as well.

Jerry saying in his presser that we need to play these young guys more may tell us indirectly all we need to know about Barber.

Good point.

No team needs an all world backup TE. If Dallas could snag a 2nd rounder for the guy, take it.

Still cannot believe they turned down a 1st rounder for him.

#21 and #27 would be mighty nice to have.

No kidding.

Moving our best blocking TE is pre-draft SMOKE, Bennett plays a key role is our runnning game and in pass protection, especially with a new starting LT. Martellus is one of the reasons Dallas can be so confident in Doug Free.

The Cowboys dont believe that or they wouldnt keep selecting guys.

If we trade Bennett you can bet we'll just take another TE with a high pick so we might as well keep Marty B.

Im sick of the TE carousel.

Well, the original pick for him was in the 4th, he really has only had 2 good seasons. The last two years his health and production have pointed in the wrong direction.

Realistically you can get quality backs in the 3rd,4th and 5th rounds.

He averages 800yds and 8.5 TDs per season. Really sure you want to move that production for a 5th rounder? I mean, I know we've been hitting on late round gems a lot lately, but not that often for me to be comfortable with that sort of trade value.

IMO to us, hes worth a 3rd round pick at least. Otherwise keep him and see how much more he has in the tank.

Everyone is...But to justify keeping Martellus cause you think we're just gonna go out and get another one is a little foolish. It could be that they trade Martellus simply because they're also sick of the TE carousel, have found someone they actually like (Phillips), and are ready to just move on already

Spencer didn't do anything until the last half of last season. Where was he the first two and a half years?

That is not true Spencer was getting pressure on the QB all season what most fans whined about was his lack of sacks yet he was making plays and forcing the QB to throw early and made them have bad throws. What took him half a season was to get to that next level from being good to that next level of play.
