Speaking of lack of foresight, you're the one wanting to keep a $8 million RB who offers nothing but blocking ability. By the way, you do realize that Witten isn't going anywhere until either a) his contract is up (2013) or b) he goes down with a career ending injury. Bennett's contract is up before Witten's contract is up, I guess we should pay Bennett like a starter to sit on the bench because of all of his "potential" when his contract is up right? By the way, due to the Miles Austin factor Bennett is going to be used a lot less due to the fact that we've moved away from the regular 2-TE set. If someone offers us a second round pick we'd be ******** to turn it down.

Some of you kids are too obsessed with what "might be" rather than what is. Damn this Madden generation.

This guy is a very rare talent. He can play like a Left Tackle and is more than athletic enough to do some big things in the passing game.

No TE plays like a LT. If one did, he would be converted to the more valuable position.

Bennett would just leave in free agency in that scenario and we would have nothing to show for it.

And we probably spent his entire rookie contract waiting for the entire package to come together and terrorize the NFL.
I'd rather get something while he still has some value.

losing Barber leaves a hole at RB, plus i would argue that Spillar is probably the best playmaker in this draft bar none. especially with 4.2 speed, can you imagine the added dimension to our special teams alone would be?

Question for you guys wanting to trade Bennett. If Witten goes down, do you truly believe Phillips can step in and take his place as a receiving weapon?

I think not. Could Bennett? Without question.

Another season like 2009 and a million Tweets later, he'll have even less next year about this time.

Ok that would be the all time rip off.

Marty B and Barber in a package deal are worth the 12 pick.

But to get a 2nd and 5th just to move up? Awful trade for us. Absolutely terrible.

Excuse me for a second, but.

We're talking about here and now. Currently, Tellus is a blocking TE who has shown a few flashes so far. Now maybe I'm undervaluing a blocking TE, but if I have the opportunity to unload a blocking TE who is more concerned about cereal than football and an aging back who is overpaid and who should realistically be playing 3rd fiddle to Choice and Jones, for the chance to move up and possibly snag a safety this defense has been sorely missing, or a WR who could perform opposite of Miles..

Who says Phillips has to be our #2 TE? If the Cowboys let Bennett go they clearly think that Phillips (or whoever the bring in) is more than capable of offering just as much, if not more than Bennett does. They are much more capable of making that determination than anyone currently posting in this thread.

Given his failure to even produce in his limited opportunities, what makes you think Bennett would be able to step into his shoes?

There are numerous spots on this roster where the depth is a step down and a significant one. We'd better get cracking on drafting a top QB, NT and C since that is the case.

Were you screaming to trade Spencer prior to last season? It took Spencer two and a half seasons for the light to come on. Why would you dump another player who has the same amount (if not more) talent than Spencer at his position before giving him a third season?

no, you misunderstood..I said MB + MB3 + 27 was worth the 12th pick..

Catch said MB + MB 3 with no 1st rounder = 12th pick..I said no chance

No way in hell you can get the 12th overall pick with Tellus and MB.

There's a ceiling when you trade players anyway. Their values diminish as you add in players. It's not like 20 7th rounders are worth one 1st.

You act like he has done absolutely nothing. You do realize that he is one of the more productive SECOND TEs in the league right?

I believe I just read an article that puts him around #3 in the league in productivity for teams second TEs. Thats even with a down year compared to his previous year.

If Witten goes down, without question, I think he can produce 40-50 catches 700+ yards and 5-7 TDs this season.

Because if he's riding twitter more than the playbook this season his value becomes next to nothing next year if we're looking to unload him.

I think he's had more than enough opportunities to show what he can do. This guy is more concerned about having 100 pairs of shoes and being silly on twitter than being a star.

In his mind he won't be in the limelight with Witten on the team, and because of that he likely doesn't care to try to be. Oh I'm just little ole Tellus the blocking TE.

Isn't the guy an athlete on the basketball court? He shouldn't be dropping passes, period. Another RW, only we have a chance to get rid of him because we didn't invest half a draft into him.

Spencer didn't do anything until the last half of last season. Where was he the first two and a half years?

I think trading either player is a bad idea. And I'll be the first to say this is contingent on a lot of things and it ultimately won't happen.

You know what, you're right, if Jason Witten and Antonio Gates had a child they'd crap out Bennett.

So what you're saying is that that's the law? So would it be safe to assume that if we signed J.P. Losman that he'd be the next Steve Young simply because he just needed time to develop his talent?

Spencer came on after he got a chance to start. There is a distinct correlation there.

So when do we bench Witten to get this awesomeness on the field more?
