I am not talking about passing him up at 27, the scenario being laid out in this thread is that we are going to trade Bennett, Barber, and the 27th pick to Miami for the 12th overall. Then, according to some posters, we should take Dez Bryant at #12.

I am asking why we have to spend 2 first round picks, a 3rd round pick, a 7th round pick, a former probowl RB, and a TE we drafted in the 2nd round for a pair of WRs (Roy Williams and Dez Bryant).......and neither of them are even out best WR (see Miles Austin)!!!!

Yea I understand the point you were making. It sounds ridiculous when you say it. But I think you have to look at it as if you're trading Barber and Bennett for Dez Bryant. But even looking at it that way I still don't do it. I don't trade Barber and Bennett. The offense isn't a problem. We came into this offseason with two weaknesses. Safety and offensive line. We've lost two starters at both of those positions already and the position was weak even when they were here. I don't know why fans think every answer is within trading for draft picks. If we trade up it better be because we traded draft picks. But I wouldn't dare trade two starters and a 1st rounder to trade up 15 spots. NEVER.

Anthony Fasano and Akin Ayodele for the 100th pick in the draft. Fasano has produced 67 catches for 793 yards and 9 TDs since.

Martellus Bennett, the 61st pick of the draft, has produced 35 catches for 442 yards and 4 TDs since.

Identify the bust.

That would be you and your logic, good buddy. :laugh2:

If he's healthy, he's worth more to us than simply getting a 5th rd pick. He is a good player.

The problem is he's been hurt the past two seasons and because of that, hasnt produced enough to warrant the contract he has.

Exactly.

He isn't exactly providing a whole lot either and many think it is because of his immaturity. What good is a warm body?
Better yet, what good is a warm body that is doing nothing but squandering potential?

and here lies the dilema..

Those of you who want to draft ( or trade up to draft ) Dez Bryant pay close attention to that post. That's exactly the problem the Cowboys would have to deal with.

Hoof is right in that Marty B hasn't exactly been providing much and his potential has been squandered. However, " potential " cannot be developed when it's targeted 34 times in an entire season, I don't care if you have the personality of a class clown Jim Carey or an ultra conservative priest. That's not Garrett's fault, that's not Tony's fault, it's not even Marty's fault ( despite his critics desperately trying to assign him with it ). It's the simple fact that even though it says he's the " 2nd " TE on the team, he's, at best, the 5th or 6th option in the passing game IF that.

There's, simply, not enough pass attempts in practice, game, month, season, to exploit the potential of ALL of this guys. It just does not exist.

How is Marty B supposed to live up to his potential when the ball is thrown in his general direction an average of maybe twice per game ? And what are the Cowboys supposed to do ? Cut down on the pass attempts to Witten ? Miles Austin ? Roy Williams ? Felix Jones ? Patrick Crayton ?

How do you expect Kevin Ogletree to develop ?

and you want to add a Dez Bryant to this bunch and ( some ) even expect him to make an " impact " ?

come on people, think..

Sounds kind of ridiculous.
A 2nd for Bennet and a 5 for Barber??? What the hell has Bennet done to garner a second? Act like an overgrown child?

I think people are forgetting what a beast Bennett was in blocking...I know everyone wants him to be the 2nd coming of Gates, but one, he's just a kid and people forget how big of idiots 22, 23 year olds are. Its not like he came from a great program where he had to train to try to be competetive every game. He knew he was going to get blown out time to time.

Unless something is going on in the locker room I don't see, then no way I trade him for a 2nd unless some player I need more is there. But he was a big part of our running game. If he sucks after this year, then trade him for what you can, which is not likely a 2nd.

I think a fifth is about right for MBIII. I like the guy, but he has no speed or quickness, and his bruising style has resulted in injuries...he's not a starting RB, but a short yardage back, and we're paying him big money. It's not just the 5th round pick; it's getting rid of his salary.

1. Felix is now the featured back.
2. Choice needs more carries.
3. You can get a RB like MBIII throughout the draft and in FA.

I'd be happy to pick up an extra 2 and 5, but something tells me we'll end up holding on to Martellus.

DING, DING, DING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, I love MBIII and the energy he brings to the game and this team. HOWEVER, it is painfully obvious after watching the last 2 years that he is the 3rd best RB on this team. Now, that's not a knock on him (like I'm calling him a scrub or anything like that). It just tells everyone just how talented the RB's on this team are.

Brady Tinker has never been a guy in the know as far as I have followed DFW Sportsbeat.

So I don't buy this at all.

Will throw up the video later tonight.

You should give up on that Twitter crap.

Out of all the rumors to float out on this board, these two make the most sense. Barber may be worth a fourth at best when factoring in his salary, then you have Bennett, who will never reach his potential here. That is not a knock on Bennett, but it is reality that he is playing behind one of the best TE's in the league and he will never get the majority of the passes thrown his way.

Also, why should this mean that Dallas trades up? This draft is pretty rich in the second round, so another pick there means we can snag an another future starter. If they snag a lineman in the first (Iupati/Pouncey), then grab Allen or Burnett at safety and Alualu as their future Defensive end. They then have picks in each of the next three rounds to nab another back-up Tight End and third string running back.

I would trade them for more picks not to trade up unless we can get a top LT or Top S.

He isn't producing, yet he has all the talent on earth. I think it's safe to say that if he acted more like he should there's a good chance that he'd be a lot less worthless. Common logic, use it.

We as fans can pass judgment and have opinions about how a player acts on or off the field and it is nothing more than us ranting or raving. However it is another story when the owner of the team basically says to a reporter that Bennett needs to focus more...

"There’s a big difference in the 'down to business’ of those two guys," Jerry answered. "Spencer has been down to business since he walked in the door. Bennett can get down to business. I know that he can…We all see what a tremendous weapon he is and can be. His blocking is really as impressive as his ability to be a big target for [Tony] Romo.

"I’m confident he sees that. He’s extremely smart. He can get it; I think focus would be the word. He will get a lot more tweets if he’s a big-time ballplayer than he will just off of his creative ability."

Bennett is not going to be a major factor on this team as long as Witten is Witten. Simple fact. He is not an all world blocker as some here have stated; he is very good but Phillips is not far behind. The difference between the two is not great- therefore if the oppurtunity presents itself to get a 2nd or even a high 3rd, or for him to be used to move up to get a better player that will actually get on the field more, then do it.

As a Tight End? Yes he is and if he isn't yet he has shown that he will be.

Phillips is a better blocker as an H Back. He hasn't really shown it when he is out on the Edge.

Flo was a guy that we never really had to give much help too. With Free? Who knows. There is still potential that we may fall flat on our face with this whole Free thing.

Don't give away your best help guy. Please Dallas.
