Did the Bills steal our guy?

Great misinformation job by the Cowboys. Reading all the reports after last night was done, it was clear the Cowboys weren't going TE at 26.

They sure fooled Buffalo into trading up.
U clearly understand what the team did. I wish others did. You may have heard the reports leading up to the draft that we suddenly wanted Laporta at 26. Well, he was there at 26 and to your point, we passed on that TE as well. The big picture is clear, we were never truly drafting a TE at 26. The facts show this. What the team did made sense.

Brugler said on his draft recap show last night that yes he thinks we were planning on taking Kincaid, and Todd Archer said today he thought the opposite and it was Mazi all along. Probably will never really know. Given the debate that was going on in the draft room, I tend to side with Brugler, seemed like more debate coming down to the last minutes of the clock than usual.
I like Dane but Archer makes sense here. I truly think hes right. Mike McCarthy hinted at this before the draft that we wanted to get bigger in the trenches.

Look at it from Jacksonville's perspective.
My guess is that when Buffalo offered the trade, Jacksonville called Jerry, and told Jerry that Buffalo offered a 4th round pick, and that they (Buffalo) were going to select Kincaid.

Jacksonville was trying to get the best deal they could -- in other words, I bet, Jerry/Cowboys knew Buffalo was going to select Kincaid even before the trade was finalized.
Dallas was not willing to part let's say with a 3rd round selection, or a future pick in order to prevent Buffalo from selecting Kincaid.

Buffalo did not "steal" Kincaid -- they just overvalued his draft stock (Kincaid has back issues at 25 years of age -- so there is risk).

I agree with Jerry -- I will take Mazi Smith, and keep my 3rd round selection today -- more overall better value for the organization.

I don't believe there was a TE from the Cowboys perspective worthy of a 1st round selection.
I bet even if Kincaid was there, Mazi Smith would have been the pick.

I know I did not see one knowing you could still get a good one in the second or third.

Seems like every year teams are jumping up in front of us to take our top guy.

Now I’m happy with smith but I wonder if dalton was the pick…

But it definitely seems like every team in the nfl knows who we’re picking for some reason…
I don't get the idea that our front office runs a tight ship.
Are our secrets getting leaked?

I doubt Cowboys were ever going tight end and even if it was in their plan they definitely wouldn't after the way the board fell.

Both sides have verified as to what happened.
If you want to buy in to what was said “after” the draft that’s fine with me. It’s all speculation. No one knows for sure what would’ve happened had Kincaid been there.

I think honestly Mazi Smith was the guy the thing is I think they made the right choice we can't advance
in the playoffs letting RB's gash us up the middle and Will McClay, MM and DQ all knew this. Did we draft
him a few picks too early probably yes but he was about the only one in this draft at NT that could do what
we are wanting to do with him and succeed. WHat I do think he may also chip in with 5 or 6 sacks. They
basically didn't want to risk losing him. I think they over blew the TE thing and I thought this even a month
or two ago. I am not convinced a guy like Kincaid or Mayer brings much more than Ferguson.

At least one team trying to trade up with Dallas was looking at taking Mazi Smith so the Cowboys had to take him there if they wanted him.

Yep, I was laughing at the draft genuiues on this board saying that TE was a forgone conclusion even though it made zero sense...
Had Ferguson not shown anything we would have for sure taken a tight end imo

Whats funny and I'm not making a joke but do you see Mayer making that much more of an impact than Ferguson can ? I don't and my feeling Ferguson has a good TE body, good hands and can run after the catch. When you look at Hendershot he's a more skinner TE but can also catch more similar to Kincade neither are good blockers. What I'm trying to say will we take a TE probably but not necessarily to start.

Not only that but recent history shows the best tight ends generally have not been taken early. Rb and te need to be taken late imo.

He’s giving his opinion. He said he “believes” they wouldn’t have taken Dalton Kincaid and “thinks” they still would’ve taken Smith. There’s others who cover the Cowboys and the league that have different opinions. Everyone has an opinion.
