Nope. Listening to the presser and conversation afterwards it sounds like the Cowboys had decided against TE at 26.

The Bills unnecessarily traded up with Jacksonville.
So, the cowboys weren't admitting that Mazy wasn't plan A? shocker

The presser is pretty clear
They were discussing between a couple of defensive guys
I think we made the right pick

this^ They decided against TE 1000% once they understood Mazi, their preferred draft target, was sliding to them. They had him rated 14th on their draft board.

If Mazi Smith was indeed 14th on their board that seems unlikely.
Nah. Watch the press conference. They has 2-3 guys they were considering and there was a debate. They also had a trade on the table.
Smith wasn't a slam dunk and it looked like there were differing opinions.

They said 2-3 and I personally think Jerry wanted to do a trade.
He didn't look too happy to me in the press conference.

I remember the Eagles stealing our guy in the 1st when Parcells was HC. They knew he was high on Shawn Andrews, jumped one pick ahead and took him and the guy was a bust, injured too much.

The defense was not the problem against the 49ers.
We've spent decades stacking the offense and never got out of the 2nd round. I'm all for building an ELITE defense. The offense stunk against the 49ers, and we've already have countless experience of our offenses melting in the playoffs. If Quinn can bring something like we saw with those Seattle defenses, there's less pressure for our offense to 'win the game.'

Also, the defense wasn't the problem against Brock Purdy, but we would have gotten gashed against the Eagles with their run game and Hurts.

If Jerry is unhappy, that's a good thing. Looks like the football guys are starting to win out. If they can keep Jerry from drafting the next rap star in the 2nd round, then we're truly changing the culture here.

I think its possible that the boys smoke screen was good enough to make the bills expend a pick to trade up

No

why do we need a TE in the first round? can we upgrade at that position? yes

can we also do well at that position with the 3 that we have? yes

Seems like every year teams are jumping up in front of us to take our top guy.

Now I’m happy with smith but I wonder if dalton was the pick…

But it definitely seems like every team in the nfl knows who we’re picking for some reason…
Once again another team with the same need out performed the Cowboys last night. Personally, I don't think teams like to trade with the Cowboys because the Jones clan probably asks for stupid crap like soda money for their office soda machines..........

No…they let everyone believe they were taking a TE, so they could nab their guy…well played!
Keep on believing that if you want to....then why the Chinese Fire Drill once Kincaid went off the board??? Someone needs to talk to someone with the Chiefs and and find out why they found the need to actually call....while a busy draft is going on.....to tell Dallas that they were going to take Smith had we traded with them. Seriously, who does that? And why? I am NOT buying it for a second....total BS.

If they did, fine.

We came back swimmingly and landed a solid DT prospect that at the very least can help plug the middle against the run but has the athleticism that with some coaching could also become an asset in the pass rush as well.

I was going to say the Cowboys haven't picked a TE in the first since 1997. But they haven't picked a DT since 1991.
