Diggs soft play was shocking

That has absolutely nothing to do with backpedalling when you have the ball carriers coming at you and you're consistently avoiding contact. Nobody is asking him to be Troy Polamalu and make some ridiculous bone crushing hits. When you have a ball carrier coming your way, drop your weight and at least attempt to make a form tackle. Period. It was embarrassing last night.

Yeah he’s been off most of the year but teams haven’t tried attacking him. The post that discusses him making business decision is highly accurate imo.
He’s had 14 PD and his career high for tackles
He hasn’t gambled as much which to me is a good thing

Im a diggs fan but its not like he hasnt been like this the whole time. He is a feast or famine guy and he does sometimes make business decisions and right now with the state of our secondary Im ok with it do your best to make the tackle without putting your body at too much risk.We lose him were screwed

He's playing within the scheme of the defense. He'll only gamble now if there's a definitive safety over the top of his outside shoulder (which isn't often).

He's never going to be a tackler, and the Niners will key on that (lots of WR screens and TE screens to his side, plus runs over there). Otherwise, he's doing his job, which is what they need out of him.

Teams have given him respect because of his dominance last season but when tested this season he’s been largely ineffective.

Does that help?
His coverage this year was better this year than last year, so no, that doesn't help. He isn't in the league for his tackling ability or physicality but he has been a more willing tackler this year than last year as well IMO even if below average.

You guys want to trash him for not sticking his nose in, what about the fumble that was called back. Did you see him throw his body at the TE to try and shield him from the ball so Hooker could pick it up? If he was all about the glory he would have gone for the ball. Team first move and very unselfish play by him IMO

I saw Deion live a few times - I lived in Fla during his FSU days .

Deions lack of tackling at times was shocking as was his avoidance of contact .
You beat Deion hard inside slants but Deion was aggressive- he was a position battler and like a spider ️ all over you .

Diggs is a trotter - a trailer and a shoulder roller tackler .
His tackling is embarrassing- his technique is embarrassing- his lack of intensity is a huge turnoff .

He’s lost the fanbase

Just to add a little bit of context to this but didn't Diggs hurt his hand pretty bad in a one of the last 2-3 games? Not that he will every be confused with Ronnie Lott but that thing might be still giving him problems. Or it just hurt bad enough the first time that it scared him because he has not really used his hands in tackling since. It has pretty much always been trying to bump guys out of bounds or ankle bite them.

Diggs has been playing soft for a few games now...avoiding tackling...which tells me that MM and the other coaches are aware and complacent about it. A reflection of the organization.

Or they know they are up schitts creek without him and have instructed him to protect himself within reason.

Diggs is making 2 many business decisions. DQ better have a heart to heart with him.
DQ and Al Harris the DB coach. I'd sit him down and tell him that he needs to contribute and "put his f****** nose in the s***" as my coach used to say whenever one of us would loaf or whiff on a tackle. I wonder if the Cowboys can put a stipulation in his next contract about aggressiveness on tackles and contact lol

I'm a Diggs fan too.....but the business decisions have been occurring for quite some time......well before Anthony Brown was injured. Film don't lie. You're right, if we lose him, we're screwed, it doesn't make the tackling effort acceptable.

He did? Shut down?
Evans caught 6 balls for 74 yards last night. Most of the time when he caught those balls Diggs wasn't on him. Evans was their home run hitter and pretty much got a few singles. He was mostly shut down.

They were playing not to get beat deep all night. It’s the only way Brady and Evans could hurt us. I’m okay with him playing off 10 yards. Now next week with those SF receivers like Deebo….they live of short passes and YAC. He will need to play better

We all know Diggs and know tackling was not his strength.

But it was shocking at times to see him seemingly do as much as he can to avoid it in a game that’s win or go home.

I know it wasn’t a secret about Diggs but man, a guy like Deebo is gonna work him if he’s planning on playing defense just the same.

Love Diggs, we can’t do this without him.
Diggs making Deion Sanders look like a 26 year old Brian Urlacher. #7 was literally running in circles last night avoiding, not just tackles, but contact period. Up next, a physical 49ers team.
