Other than situational substitutions, I feel that running DL in and out of the game disrupts their rhythm. I don't buy the resting them excuse, they spend as much energy running in and out of the game as the do playing. If you have 4 guys that are better then the others, keep them in and ride them. Long drives, OK, rest your stud when he needs it and stick his butt back in the game. The question may be, do we have 4 clearcut starters?
Anyway, that's how I see it, any opinions?

That's my concern also, is that we don't even have 4 "best" guys.

We have a bunch of guys who have a similar level of talent.

And even the ones who do have good potential (like Irving or Tapper or Collins or Crawford) are either suspended or you have to watch their work load because they're continuously nicked up.

I just pray someone like Moore can exceed expectations. Oh wait -- he's going to be suspended also.

So in the situation we're in with lack of a stud, I don't think rotating them will hurt anything.

I think the results speak for themselves. While we can probably all agree we don't have the best talent on the DL, we were 14th in the league in sacks (though 26th in hurries) and best in the league in stuff percentage & best in rush yards against.

If the secondary is indeed upgraded, I think it will help this defense more than people realize.

I see your point, but we were playing with a lead most of the time, I wonder how many of those sacks came in nut cutting time?

The rotation worked well in the 90's for the SB teams.

However, I do lean more this time, have a set of players in for a good 75% of the plays, rotate the other 25% for the situation.

I agree if you have 4 that are clearly better than the backups. Other than M. Collins and maybe D. Lawrence, they are all about the same.

If they are not that talented and you have several with about the same ability then rotation is indeed the best way. Sorry anyone thinking just running in and out of the field in any way compares to what it takes during each play knows nothing about football. EXPECIALLY for linemen.

you are right, I'm hoping a couple of others will rise to the occasion this year. I know people are down on Taco, but i hope he gives us something. Not giving up on him and Tapper could be a stud if he can stay healthy.

I speak from my own experiences as a coach and more importantly, I'm probably still hoping for Randy White, Too Tall Jones, John Dutton and Harvey Martin to be reincarnated into our present. lol

When you look at that line- 1 HOF and frankly 2 others that should be in the conversation at least and even the so called least of them went to several pro bowls you have to wonder why the team did not win more Lombardi's. But then I remember the Rams fearsome foursome never won any. Just one single great unit does not a championship team make.

Rotation certainly worked for the Giants enough to win two Lombardi's. And they had only one player that could be called great in Strahan. And the second one they did not have him.

Man, people can't post opinions around here without some people making thing personal. Makes it hard to hold back, but I will.

Just because you were a coach does not mean you were good. Just like being a player does not mean you were good. People all too often bow down to someone just because of their title.

the top contenders this year are irving, collins and who?
mayowa, no.
thornton, no
paea, not sure
crawford, probably not now
taco, no idea
dlaw, no due to 2 back surgeries
moore, no idea
gregory - would have been
ash - pro bowl candidate - there you go!
we got a problem, houston

the concept of playing the 4 best vs rotation.
if you got sapp/rice/mcfarland, then yes play the starters.
same with the eagles line of reggie white
other than that, i dont recall a line of similar dominance.
bears 85 line had dent and forgot who else.
