ok, they need an advanced development league :lmao: where the practice squad players can play.
A good friend of mine got his start with the Rhein Fire. Our fathers were coworkers, he came home after college and started coaching junior high ball with me. He went on a few tryouts and wasn't picked up. He ended up in Europe and then was signed by the Raiders. He played about 8 or 9 years in the NFL. Good story, he spoke at one of my banquets.

I think you have to rotate guys in and out of the game, players start sucking wind and you see guys bent over with hands on their knees you know they are getting gassed. Your top DL players will see more snaps than guys who rotate in with them but there is no doubt in my mind the front DL need breathers or they will not hold up late in the game

If the secondary is indeed upgraded, I think it will help this defense more than people realize.

If it was upgraded, we're not likely to see it in 2018. I'm fine with the call to retool, but it's going to take time. Our defense could be pretty bad, sadly.

Other than situational substitutions, I feel that running DL in and out of the game disrupts their rhythm. I don't buy the resting them excuse, they spend as much energy running in and out of the game as the do playing.

What evidence do you use to make these claims?

I wish we had the talent that would allow us to leave the top four players in more and limit the rotation to situational plays and rest. Unfortunately, we don't seem to have that talent. Hoping it develops though.
I suspect we will see marked improvement once the cavalry arrives. Then as the season progresses we could see some jumps arise in surprising places. The offense will disguise deficiencies, hopefully, in the meantime. If none of that happens, take comfort in the knowledge that the window just recently reopened and will likely remain open for the next 4 to 5 years... potentially longer.

I agree completely, i would just rather call it substituttion, for situations like down and distance, certain offensive packages or for rest. I just don't like rotation for the sake if rotation. If a player is playing well and is not tired, let him play. I've always hated to see a player make a great play and get the team fired up and then he gets yanked.
I agree, players need to be managed to keep them strong for the finish.

Coaching HS ball in Texas, we face many hurry up offenses where we can't sub unless we burn a timeout or fake an injury. When we do, players need to run full Sprint in and out. That can take a ton out of you in 90 degree heat and 80 percent humidity. Again, i know HS is not the NFL

No doubt that a team like the Packers are great and taking advantage of teams trying to rotate defensive players in. Hell Rodgers got of a few times that helped the Packers continue to move the chains. Cowboys need to do a better job of getting guys in and out the game quickly.

Long drives, OK, rest your stud when he needs it and stick his butt back in the game. The question may be, do we have 4 clearcut starters?
Anyway, that's how I see it, any opinions?
