This is easy.
Your criteria was let go a player and regretted it. I named 3 in 5 seconds.

Now you want to change the rules?

Colston was drafted in the 7th round by the Saints.

I'm still think the people we have gotten rid turn out to be nothing than turn around and be successful. The fact that you guys are even going back to the 70's kind of proves my point.

Jimmy Smith and Ron Stone were in the 90s, Matt Moore was last year. Besides we are listing players who went on to be dominant players at their position, there are many, many others who could have helped contribute at other levels.

Stannback is too big for a returner all the great ones are lil spitfires.I think he would be a good WR though with that size too bad he is plastic.I think hes done.

There used to be a promising safety behind Charlie Waters and Cliff Harris named Randy Hughes who used to have his shoulder pop out on contact. It ended what was a promising career.

Maybe he (Stanback) should just have the surgery now and see if it can be corrected before it does become a recurring problem.

Screw the surgery, inject some superglue into the shoulder, tape an aspirin to it and get out there and play!

Fair enough. Steve DeOssie, Craig Morton, Beasley Reece, Randell Godfrey, all of these guys were pretty good NFL players that went on to star with other teams because we gave up on them for one reason or another. It does happen.

It does. You're right the loss of Isiah Stanback may or may not be be a bad move to the team further down the line. However considering the talent level of the team we have we are bound to cut good players. On top of that I still feel that he really doesn't have a spot on the team. He isn't the best KR on the roster and he is showing signs of improvement but not enough to keep around IMO. His ball handling skills is terrible and a trying to play through a dislocated shoulder is only going to lessen the amount he can impact the team.

Could he turn around and be a star some where else yea. We have players like that on our roster. He hasn't shown enough and he isn't going to so much more than what he did last year. So I say we cut him sooner than later and see what the next guy in line can do.

If I were the Cowboys, I might consider putting him on IR. He wouldn't count against the 53 and from what I've seen this year, I'm not certain he will even contribute much to this years club. But this guy has to learn to run with the football. He just holds that ball out there way to free. Can't contribute if your laying the ball on the carpet all the time. That's no good.

I feel the same way about putting him on IR. From what I've seen of him up to this point, I don't think he's going to make very many significant contributions this year anyway.

I am so glad you don't have a say beyond a message board. That is ridiculously flawed.

Let me say this. I am not in complete disagreement with you. I understand your reasoning completely. However, to me, right this minute, there is no reason to release him. He does have talent, as evidenced by his returns against Houston just last week. However, he has things to work on. If we sign another WR and need to make room on the roster, then I'm not opposed to maybe giving him his release but, there has to be reason to do it. Right now, there is no reason to make this move. However, if the situation changes in the future, I may find myself sharing your views on this subject. Just not right this minute.

I tend to agree, this guy needs to suck it up and play! He was not going to touch the field as a WR anyways and if he's returning kicks, that's one less guy that can get injured in that role. Run up the field and sacrifice, baby!

Easy for me to say. :laugh2: Dislocated shoulders hurt!

yup IR would be the best thing for him and the cowboys. he can learn how to run routes, cowboys can stash him away safely and use that roster spot for someone who can really contribute to the team this year. that's what the patriots have done consistently.

it's a PS spot without the risk of losing him.

Got a sore throat? Robitussin. Got pnemonia..Robitussin. Broken leg? Robitussin. According to Chris Rock's dad, should work great for a dislocated shoulder too. [shrug]

Well, off the top of my head, Jimmy Smith was released because of injuries. He spent something like two seasons with us on IR and we released him. He was picked up by Jacksonville and went on to 9 1000 yard+ receiving years in 10 seasons. He'll probably end up in the HOF.

Todd Christensen was a guy we drafted out of BYU in like 77/78 something like that. He wanted to play FB, we wanted him to be a TE. He ended up in Oakland and was an All Pro TE for years.

I think we had Marques Colston in camp as an FA at one time as well. We gave up on him, Sean Payton picked him up and he lead the NFC in receiving yards last year.

It does happen.

I just PMed someone about Todd Christensen and exactly the same story. He refused to be a TE here and went to NYG then Raiders where he was a pretty darn good TE. He's not on our all time roster BTW.
