Seriously. Everyone just needs to calm down and stop
feeding into the media frenzy.
For those out there who have nevered pulled a hamstring, their are two basic things that you can do: Make the injury worse by running on it too soon when it isn't fully healed, or be patient and cautious until it heels right. There really isn't much treatment that you can give a hamstring other than time and plenty of stretching. When I ran track and pulled my hammy, the most I could do was stretch, stretch some more, and then light jogging after another session of stretching. After the hammy was warmed up, my coach had me do a few 60 meter sprints (at full speed) to keep it loose, and then stretch some more. That's it. I wasn't allowed to run the 100, 4x100, and 200 with the rest of the sprinters because I would run the risk of making it worse. This went on for almost three weeks. From what I am hearing, Owens is under pretty much the same agenda...stretching, followed by long sessions of riding the bike, then a few full speed routes to keep it loose. Doing any more than that brings along the risk of making it worse.
So which would you have Owens do:
A) Return to practice just to prove to you that he is "Cowboy worthy" and risk making the injury worsen and linger throughout the entire season, and possibly miss real games when we are already thin at WR.
B) Take whatever preaseason time we can afford to get that hammy right before the season starts, so that he will have a lesser chance of injuring it again this season.
I think I would go with B...
Also, Owens is not a rookie. He doesn't need to be babied into how to read a playbook and run routes. He has great football knowledge and probably knows exactly where he needs to be without actually running the routes on the field. Now, he will need some time with Bledsoe to get the QB/WR timing down, but both guys are veterans and shouldn't take long to get on the same page.
