DMN BLOG: Terence Newman: Relationship with Jessica Simpson takes away from Tony Romo

Newman should say whatever he wants to say, he's asked a question, and like all AMERICANS, they should speak their mind.

If we don't like this, how about we stop speaking on a message board?

I disagree. Some our our rights as Americans are curtailed in a corporate setting. I can say or do anything i want as an American citizen. Yet, if my boss feels that I have put the company in a bad light or have overstepped the bounds of what my company allows as to criticizing a fellow worker, then I should suffer the consequences.

jerra put a gag order on coaches. By extension, this should go for players too.

Tony Romo is small town.
Tony Romo has the opportunity to go from small town to big town with the Dallas Cowboys.

He chose to go small town to big town with a celebrity girlfriend.

That is a conflict. (the moment he told a reporter, "I dont care what you think, its my life" = they knew they had him.

Tony Romo NEVER sniffs a Jessica Simpson-status-woman in Wisconsin.
He is out of his element.

Simple solution, no speaking to the media. But if you're allowed to speak to the media, you say what you want.

How many players on the team have "famous" girlfriends?

Can't say Roy38 because he's gone.

Someone needs to tell Romo this personally and not to the media.

I dont even remember Jessica during the season.

Seroiusly, I cannot remember anything since TR went to Mexico. The only pics I can remember was them both at an airport. Unfortunately perception becomes reality.

I imagine Romo is well aware.
They should still talk to him about it instead of him having to read it.

And if he stays with her, gets married and then goes on to win 3 super bowls, what do we get to say then?

Every situation is different. It takes all kinds. To each their own.

Just because Aikman decided to wait, doesn't mean it was pivotal to his sucess in this league. It just means he decided to not have a girlfriend and be happy only seeing guys naked in the locker room. And if that's what it took, hey that's what it took. But who is to say he couldn't of won 6 SBs getting married young? There is a lot to say about a good woman behind a great man, often times taking a good woman to make the man great- or possibly even greater in this case had that been the case, which we will never know. He did it his way though, and that was the way it worked out. Just like Romo's will work out the way it's supposed to work out. And nothing we can do, it just is the way it is and the cards will fall the way they're supposed to, however that may be.

That would be a little too friendly, just saying.

I have another word for friendly but I will keep my trap shut. :) You said enough.

When players aren't feeding the TMZ-type media, they're feeding the Oprah-type media. Regardless of whether your comments are innocent enough, there isn't any meaningful reason to gossip for the media's sake only. If the impulse to answer questions posed by the media is 'overwhelming', just stick to pure football replies minus any 'Me! Me!' conjecture. Simple.

I interpreted what Newman said the same way you describe. I'd be willing to bet just about everything I own that's what he meant.

He doesn't mean the relationship prevents Romo from being great, but rather that all the time the media spends focusing on Romo and Simpson would be better spent on reporting the football aspect of things.
I read it the same way.

So did all the people with brains.

I see T.O. isn't the only one who needs to hit the road.

Yes. Anyone who doesn't annoint Romo or points out what they see in "real time" needs to leave.

THEN Romo can throw and catch all by hisself.

Aren't you a journalist?

How can you not comprehend this?
