DMN: Cowboy blog: Colombo doesn't owe the Cowboys

On the verge of being cut? Link? Parcells never indicated such. In fact, he said quite the opposite.

I don't have a link. That was a year ago on a player who isn't very good at all but I do remember him being on the verge of getting cut. I was suprised because he was a BP guy. That's what stuck out to me.. Nevertheless, if we are placing stock in Fabini, we're in big big trouble...

Fabini was never going to get cut. BP never indicated that. You might have read some sort of speculation from the local mediots, but that was it. The guy performed well and very nearly edged out Colombo for the starting position. I wouldn't expect there to be any noticeable drop off from Colombo to Fabini.

If we are going to rely on Fabini, Proctor, McQ...to shore up the OL....we had better sign 5 backup QB's because we are sure as heck going to need them.

This moon eclipse is affecting everyone's thinking. GOOD GRIEF!!!

I don't see a problem relying on Fabini for 2007 while letting a 3rd/4th round RT pick to develop.

Well I do! and if you can't see the problem then you must be blinder than a bat.

The Cowboys will probably be able to re-sign Colombo if they make a competitive offer. It's his agent's job to make sure there's a lot of competition for Colombo's services.
Then what the hell are we waiting for??????????

Play this game until Colombo says DEAL........

Maaaan I can't believe I was even debating about Fabini..

Did you guys not watch Fabini play in preseason and throughout the year? He looked just as good as Colombo.

Ok man, if you say so...

Fabini is a good backup guy for a game or two. I really doubt he still has it in him to play well for 16.

No worse.

Trying to talk ourselves into the idea that it really might not be that bad.

So, let's be real here.

He was earning more than Colombo. Fact.

He was a former player on Coach Parcells' teams in New York. Fact.

And per you, he played "just as well".

So why did his most significant game action occur as a third tight end?

That's you argument??? Hell I would look good in preseason.

I honestly don't remember him playing in a regular season game.

We can agree to disagree. That's fine. At one point Bledsoe was starting ahead of Romo, Al Singleton was starting ahead of Bobby Carpenter, Keith Davis was starting ahead of Pat Watkins, and Al Johnson was starting ahead of Gurode.

In reality, the argument that "X was starting ahead of Y, therefore Y sucks" is not very convincing.

The bottom line is that the guy played last season and when he did he looked fine. If he sucked when he played, I'd see a reason to think he sucked. People just see that he was a backup and that he's old and assume he sucks. Sorry if I don't buy that logic.

How would you know? The guy hasn't missed many games in his whole career and he's only 32. The Cowboys were lucky last year that he was coming off an injury so the market wasn't there for him. Colombo narrowly beat him out and they may have been because of Colombo age and upside. If Fabini was a free agent right now he would be rolling in the dough.

I remember him playing in a few spot situations......If I remember correctly he played alot in the first Giant Game and was lit up like a Christmas Tree.
