Odds that they may have a better player deeper in their depth chart isn't really a stretch.

And yet, here they are signing Fred Jackson, nearly the minute after he was released? If anything, that's an extreme compliment towards Jackson's value and condemnation for what they think of what they currently have. Running backs that they know better than anyone.

I guess I don't understand why the guy they might sign has to be young? You aren't looking for a starter, you are looking for a 3rd RB, a situational guy. So what does it matter if the kid is 24 or 35? If you feel he can help you for a year or two, age shouldn't be a factor.

I don't understand it either. If you think you're a contender this year and believe a guy can help you this year, you sign him. You're not likely to find your feature running back of the future off of someone else's scrap heap. Signing a veteran now helps you for this year. And it doesn't prevent you from getting a lead ball carrier next year if what you have doesn't prove up to the task.

That comment by Stephen Jones is the reason Dallas did not move on Jackson. Evidently if there was a young RB they saw out there that they like they very well could bring him in. I know some have their so called pet cats and that is fine but the organization does not feel the same way

I don't think you can separate one factor from the other. If they were confident with what they have, they wouldn't have to be talking to Jackson at all. A lot of people are trying to talk up Christine Michael or whoever the Seahawks cut, but if that guy is getting cut in favor of Jackson, it tells you all you need to know. The guy who gets cut simply wasn't good enough. Actions speak louder than words.

And somehow, this team would rather stick with a bunch of unprovens, a proven non-factor, and a known injury risk, over a guy who's had multiple thousand yard seasons in this league.

The Cowboys said they were looking for a younger RB they could work with into the future. Jackson isn't him.

I wish I could get paid to ask the same question for the 100th time, and write the same article each time. Really, all these "journalists" have to do is replace one quote for another, change the date, and they're done.

I really believe that they are ok for the present time but are looking to possibly find "lightning in a bottle" with a young guy who gets caught up in the numbers game. Unless something catastrophic happens to our RBs, we are not going to be signing any older player.

How can we rule it out, when it's almost a guarantee at least 1 of the 3 will always be injured.

And how does Dunbar even count as a RB? He's averages about 2 carries per game, and only comes in on passing downs.

Since the 3rd RB usually plays special teams it does matter
Most 35 yr old players don't play special teams
