Not that young but how about toby gerhart? Injured most of last year and now has to fight off the younger backs. In Minnesota I remember him as a see hole and run kind of back. He has shown the ability to break and take on tackles. Just throwing it out there haven't seen him mentioned.

The Cowboys said they were looking for a younger RB they could work with into the future. Jackson isn't him.

Exactly, it is a completely different situation.

SEA has Lynch. He is the work horse. They want someone that can step right in IF Lynch gets hurt. FJackson is just insurance.

We would be signing him to compete for the starting job and be a big part of the RBBC.

So you just clearly ranked our running game vs what Seattle has and basically said it pales in comparison. You are absolutely correct.

I agree. Nice to know we have at a minimum a player who will be our swing tackle or most likely our future ROT.

Meh, I didn't have a problem with the pick because Free can't last forever and Jax overpayed for Parnell. However, it's a mystery as to why we drafted him over others. Thanfully we lucked out into snagging Collins after the draft.

On that we certainly agree.

Me as well. I think he can't run through wet Charmin. Sure seems to fall down quite often. However, he apparently would be fantastic if they had a pro flag football league.

Speaking of INSURANCE I really don't understand why we don't have one? Randle and Dunbar are not what you call insurance if MacFadden happens to get injured. If there was one Superbowl team that we should try to emulate it's Seattle and not New England. Why are we copying the Patriots with a RBBC approach while our oline is made to play smashmouth football? Whats even funny about all this is that the Patriots didn't get to the Superbowl by running the ball - they passed their way to success.

We should be more like Seattle. Have a workhorse like a Lynch to grind out the defense and chew time off the clock. Just like we did last year. If we can't do that then at least have a reliable and dependable backup to MacFadden. If there is a team that needs insurance at the runningback position its the Cowboys. I don't understand why were standing around not doing anything about it as if the Lombardi is given to us on a silver platter.

That is what I have been saying.

RB should be our strength.

We should have Murray-Randle-DMC-Vereen.............................total cap hit of 8m+
We were still counting on RWilliams until he couldn't even pass the physical.
We have a RBBC of Randle-DMC-Dunbar-GJohnson..............weakness

Since Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden are unlikely to play in the preseason finale Thursday night, the Cowboys will head into the regular season with some questions regarding their running back situation.

Injuries have limited both backs from running away with the bell cow role DeMarco Murray held in 2014.

During a Monday radio interview Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stopped short of saying the team was set at the position.

“We got three backs here that we like a lot,” Jones told the G-Bag Nation show on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “If we saw a young back to add to the mix, we’d certainly look at it. But what we’ve seen on the wires so far, we’re pretty content with what we got. That doesn’t mean that won’t change here in the next week or so.”

Dont hold your breath. this team has its 3 RBs unless somebody better than all 3 gets release. And thats not going to happen. McFadden, Randle and Dunbar are the 2015 RBs

If we had Murray and DMC I would not have been worried at all and Dallas would probably most favored to win it all this year. But that ain't happening. Yet there were opportunities to replace Murray. That didn't happen. There was also opportunities to replace Williams. That didn't happen as well. We brought in MacFadden which I believe is a change of pace back. So now we 3 change of pace backs and one thats practice squad material. I wish I can disagree with you but yes your right, its a very weak group indeed.

Seattle is at least being smart about bringing in insurance incase Lynch goes down. I wish we would follow their blueprint.

Having a Lynch isn't easy since their aren't many like him in the NFL. Also, you might as well as kept Murray as Lynch is just as expensive to keep or more so. I'd love to have a great RB but you can only spend so much money and fortunately we have to pay Romo, Dez, and Smith as well as hopefully others down the road like Hardy and T Crawford. You get the idea.

You need an efficient ground game but not necessarily a great one. There are plenty of examples in the league esp NE.

I don't understand why people say that we should model our run game after the Patriots. They are a passing team and the pass sets up the run for them. We should be modeling our run attack after Seattle - who ranked No. 1 in the NFL last year.

We don't need a Marshawn Lynch. But we do need some type of workhorse that can break tackles and get the extra yardages that Murray was able to get last year. He doesn't have to be a world beater but productive and reliable enough to stay healthy. We have none of that. What we have are 3 change of pace runners that can't break tackles. Two of them - Randle and Dunbar were handed their position on a silver platter without any competition whatsoever. Most teams would have already cut Dunbar which I believe won't be nothing more than a bench warmer.

I like said before we could do better than what we got. A lot better. With a team that is aiming for the Superbowl and having an aging Romo, now is not the time to experiment with the runningback position.
