The thing is even if he proved to be a good starting QB that you could never relax with him as a starter... not with the addiction issues. He could be fine today and into rehab tomorrow or subject to a league suspension.

No, I wouldn't want to see that.
Anything you get from a 5th- or 6th-round pick is gravy anyway.

If you pick him up for a low pick and then get him past his addiction problems you might be on to something but this can't be our post-Romo bet. It's way too risky!

Even if cowboys were able to control his addiction problems and get him to focus on playing ball, he still wouldn't be worth it. He simply isn't a good QB to begin with.

If Dallas brings in Manzel AND drafts a QB, do you guys think will they keep three QBs on the roster?

The addiction problems didn't bother the 1990's Cowboys much

Agreed. I don't like taking chances with players when the resource cost is too high anyway. He would always be a controversy. New guy has a bad day, put Manziel in. Romo has a bad day, he's washed up put Manziel in.

And he's too much temptation with his skills to give up on when the time comes. Jerry would want to give every ounce of benefit even beyond the reasonable.

Give him another few years to mature if at all and then if he's available see if he fits if he's even an option.

I fully expect a veteran and a developmental guy on this roster so yes.

Even if cowboys were able to control his addiction problems and get him to focus on playing ball, he still wouldn't be worth it. He simply isn't a good QB to begin with.

I have been watching him these last couple weeks and he has shown me enough to know he can play in this league. Browns fans I have seen are okay with the guy and so is this guy.

I'm fine with it if he comes cheap, but yeah, only as insurance. Draft a quarterback.

I wouldn't pass on Goff regardless but not sure the other guys are really better than Manziel.

Guess Dez's old 'buddy' is free now for round the clock babysitting. Manziel with a guard dog might make sense.

The trouble is there are only so many snaps to go around.

The team is going to need a real backup... And Johnny Football ain't it.

On top of that a QB of long-term potential is needed... not a QB who's likely to have his career ended by NFL suspension– until he shows some level of maturity he's a fire-cracker waiting to explode and create a big void on the roster.

I'm sure he'd love to be in Dallas. Those SMU and TCU chicks would probably go gaga for him as he's jumping off the 2nd floor patio of the local SAE frat house during their spring mixers.

The dudes been complete self entitled since his inception, since he was driving around A&M in a 100,000$ car partying more often than not, and since he's been in the NFL. He's never going to get it together.

Pretty much EXACTLY what ATL fans/coaches/media said of Favre. For what it's worth....

If he winning being a corn dog off it is hardly unique or out of bounds.

I disagree mightily re: that Manziel isn't a back up.

He can actually run the same system as Romo. He can buy time in the pocket foir guys to get open. And he will give guys a shot at 50-50 balls. Ask Mike Evans how much he liked playing with Johnny.
He can also just run for first downs.

He is a much bigger weapon than Weeden or Cassel ever could be.

But he is definitely not ready to start. He needs time to get used ot all the blitzes and read schemes for the soft spots.

And of course he could flame out being stupid... which is why you'd like a low cost investment. But his upside is intriguing and he really does fit the Romo profile of cocky, agile, undersized, gunslinging dude.

We'll have to agree to disagree JT.

Until the kid shows some maturity... God knows the team already has a knucklehead for its star receiver...

I vote "pass".
