He should've kept his mouth shut about Austin. He should have used the phrase, "younger receivers," and not single out Austin.

TheSport78;2721034 said:Exactly, all I'm saying is that Jerry's national praise of the guy certainly didn't have the situation. The media scrutinizes everyting Jerry Jones and the Cowboys do, so Jerry has to take blame here.
sonnyboy;2721058 said:What Jerry Jones said about Austin Miles had ZERO impact on the Jets or any other team's interest.
If an NFL franchise is operating properly, it not only "knows" it's own players, it "knows" every player in the league.
That's the true secret of success in the NFL. Know as much as possible about all the talent.
In order of your own, college prospects, your 2009 opponents and the rest.
There are enough NFL teams operating properly to keep anyone from flying under the radar.
I can promise you three things.
1) The majority of teams have a book on Miles. Enough preliminary info to know if they should even consider signing him at the cost of their 2nd rd pick.
2) Other teams besides the Jets have researched the possibility further. Perhaps not to the point of contacting his agent, but at least to the point of additional film study and or scout reviews.
3) Jerry Jones comments did not trigger any evaluation and certainly were not included in any evaluation.

AbeBeta;2721041 said:Do any of you REALLY think that teams didn't know about Austin until Jerry started talking him up?
Come on. The second the off-season began you can bet teams were checking film on all the UFA and RFA players -- you make a list of RFAs and Austin would be on every team's top 10 list out of the gate. I sincerely doubt that there are teams that rely on interviews with Jerry for their scouting.

WRs are a dime a dozen, but not successful ones. Rookie WRs rarely make an impact in the NFL. Miles has shown potential and an ability to get open, unlike the other WRs on this team. What is all the more impressibe is he was raw. coming into the league. And Miles already has two years in the offense and Romo's trust. There are reports that Romo didn't throw to Roy Williams, because he didn't have the trust yet. Who is going to guarantee the other WR we get earns Romo's trust next year. This team HAS to perform next year on offense, especially after the release of TO.juckie;2721062 said:Miles aint all that.A second for a guy with like 22 career receptions and is injury prone is perfect. We can get a very nice speedster with that pick.Wrs are a dime a dozen.Football is all about the lines.
TheCount;2721032 said:He's the GM, Owner and public face of the franchise... I'm not sure what you expect.
And in this particular instant, he did boast about the player, when he wasn't even under contract.
TheCount;2721063 said:Lance Moore, the undrafted WR for the Saints had 10 TD's and 79 catches last year. The Saints put a 2nd round tender on him.
No one has made him an offer.
Jerry talks about Miles about a week ago, who has 22 catches in 3 years, and the Jets wants to bring him in for two days.
Figure that one out.
Hell, in his 2nd year in the league, lance caught more passes than Miles has his whole career, and he's 6 inches shorter.

Him never starting doesnt hold any water, him not facing big time corners does but again I think that will be a challenge he meets this year.
Each year he has progressed and last year he looked like he had the makings of being a very good player. IN person when you are at the games you can see him beating his guy and getting open alot, but being the 3rd or 4th option he didnt see the ball that much.
Romo trusts him and will throw him the ball in tight spots and I think that says an awful lot. All young developing players are risky until they are given the opportunity. He may succeed and he may fail. I think, especially this year he deserves that opportunity here. He is big, explosive and can catch the ball. I am not sure what else you are looking for at the position especially when you throw in the fact that he is a veteran and has a great attitude.
It really comes down to do you trust your coaches and the player himself to develop or do you trust your scouts more to take that 52 and go get a player of equal or better talent who can play right now like austin. I really dont think that exists. I personally think MIles Austin is ready to go and There is no doubt in my mind he will be the number 2 wr, although I hate using that numbering system for wr.

People have to stop thinking every player in this team is so much better than anything out there.
Because if that was th case we would have won at least one playoff game already.
Calm down.
If we lose Austin then we sign Tory Holt and we also have some serious ability to move up in the draft to get a LT, S or OG. Then we still have picks available to get a WR in the other rounds.
Maybe we even get a WR who can return punts.
I like Miles Austin, but acting like he's the key to the offense this season is just silly.
