DMN - Sources: Dallas Cowboys often tardy, undisciplined in '08

Alright good stuff.

Like I said we will take at least a $6 mil hit if Ware gets Freeney money and more than that if its not backloaded completely. For the sake of argument I don't see a $6 mill hit a bad starting point. That leaves us with $4 mill. Then you have the draft picks and seeing we dont have a first were probably looking at $3 mil or so after they are signed.

That leaves our FA which are

There is also the need to sign a backup QB. Canty would surely be gone leaving a hole there. You have to think were at least going to tender Austin, Hurd and Bowen.
You left off any savings from potential cuts, such as the 2 mil for Brad Johnson. And how do we know Ware's hit will be 6 mil? I would think with 2010 uncapped, we could load up salary in that year. (I dunno -- maybe we can't and that's all been established.)

Having said that, I think we are somewhat limited, assuming we resign Ware, unless we cut some other cap-space eaters like Roy and Ellis.

this is truly pathetic everyday it seems things get worse or well the magnitude of how bad things were on this team this year. And honestly there is no reason to believe things will be any different this next season!

Definitely. They are probably going to sign another backup QB so I am just going to make that a wash.

From what I can see cutting Owens is about $3 mil. I come up with the $6 mil of Ware because of the $30 mil SB that Freeney got. I am thinking they are going to give Ware a contract in that neighborhood. Prorations now are only 5 years so that is $6 mil off that proration. Its just a starting point.

As for 2010, who knows but it seems that while there is nt going to be a cap so far they are still going to be doing the accounting as if there was a cap so if cap is put into place then youre in the same boat. its not a free ride.

But thats $3 mill for Owens this year and $6 mil more next year. And $6 mil for both 2009 and 2010 for Ware if not more. With holes needed to be addressed in FA as well as expiring contracts on guys like Canty, Davis, Austin, Bowen and Hurd, we would essentially be hamstringing ourselves at best if this is close to reality.

What truly pathetic is that JJ is going with the same cupcake HC, going into next season. Things are just going to get worse.

Where did this number come from? Everything I have read has said cutting Owens would cost an extra $600,000 or so, Not to mention saving a $3M roster bonus this spring.

*EDIT* Dallas Blog has it

http://cowboysblog.***BANNED-URL***/archives/2008/12/for-those-curious-about-the-salary-cap-t.html

He was paid a $12.9 million signing bonus last June and has three years left on the deal, so the proration that would come forward is $9.675 million. He's scheduled to count $8.995 million against the cap.

Quick math says the move would cost the Cowboys $680,000.

Yea that was my thought as well. I really wanted Shanahan here...

We owe him 9 mill over the next three years. If we cut him and designate him a June cut then the acceleration is suspended to next year. thus 3 this year and 6 next year. Now what I want to know is whether or not the roster bonus is considered in the $10 mill figure being thrown around. I am guessing its not but that all it that is: a guess.

See my edit above. And I don't think you can spread the hit over two years anymore because there is no cap in 2010.

He will cost $9M on the cap if we keep him and $9M and change if we cut him.

Fuzzy, this is well documented. We have to pay him 9mil for him to play this year and 9.6mil to cut him. So is he a big enough problem to pay him 9 mil to play somewhere else?

And it also has zero impact on signing Ware, so either Jerry didn't know this or he was lying.

Unless $600,000 will cause us to lose Ware. But there could also be some talks going on about manipulating the cap this year with other players' contracts or even something going on in the future with the 'no-cap' year(s) coming up. So we can't say he's lying. Yet.

Now does the above information make it so that TO is cut and we wash our hands of him or does that mean there is still some reckoning left for 2010?

Whatever happens with the cap in 2010, $700,000 is not going to cost us Ware.

We have half a dozen contracts signed just last year that could be minorly re-structured to make up that money.

Heck we should make Hamlin pay it out of pocket....

He is continuing the same country club atmosphere that existed post-Johnson and ruined whatever progress Coach Parcells was able to achieve. He has installed another gelded coaching staff that is either powerless or unwilling to do what is necessary to run a tight disciplined team. He has the "co-head coach" system he always wanted.

Only the problem is that his plan is still fatally flawed. He is still a big part of the equation. The players all know who the ultimate decision maker is. They have been conditioned to behave that way.

All the while he is allowing the perception to exist that the coaches are those who need to change. He just refers to "re-inventing" himself but will never admit his own failures. He allows the media to skewer his coach while he emerges scot-free. Until he bottoms out again like a pathetic drug addict, we will not see much in terms of "change". All we will see is continuity. And that is frightening because by its sheer definition it means there the foundation is set and he believes his system works.

Remember when Parcells left, and Jerry said it was like a cloud had been lifted and that football would be "fun" again? Are we having fun yet?

The players? A blast. Jerry? A hoot playing Fantasy Football For Realz.

Us? No so much.

I agree with this although I think it would be more accurate to describe it as 675K + whatever it costs us to fill his roster spot (above and beyond the minimum NFL salary.) That extra could be 0 or it could be millions.

He is reporting there was a game were TO was wide open, and he got mad......then went into film room the next day and said "See i was open" out loud, and Romo just laughed at him

and the players think Romo thinks hes better then what he really is.....

this is getting sad

*on ESPN*

Edit-oh and that the pass went to Witten in double coverage

Man this is getting real bad.

Now people are questioning Romos character??

This is going to be a long long offseason.
