Do we need a weekly running account of Dez Bryant

Might just be semantics, but you can be a really good player and not be elite.

If you aren't in the same category as the true elite, how can you be elite?

I would think being ranked 60th best player in the NFL by the players would rule you as elite. Especially if you were badly injured in 2015 and hurt in 2016.

Do we need a weekly account of Dez Bryant? Only when he has a sub par game so the haters who don't understand the game of football can troll and point this out. When he has a big game... Nah.. just pretend it didn't happen and look stupid.

Its funny that you say that since the person who started this thread appears to be a Dez apologist. Irony.

WE chunk it up to him when he's 1 on 1 deep downfield. That's a good play for us against any DB in the league.

I think we just need to get the ball in his hands because he can drag an entire secondary with him once he gets that big body going.

But, like TO, we won't put him in many catch and run situations.

Like TO in his later years, Dez is feasting on bad competition and disappearing in the bigger games against better dbs for the most part.

So is this not a vertical threat?

Or are you just saying he's not fast?

Right. He's not going to blow the lid off a bracket or cover 2 like Julio.

You have to respect him downfield, sure. But not like that.

SO those guys were never open before Zeke got here last year ......... got it.

Murray before. Zeke is an even more effective decoy than Murray even.

They did not have a safety over the top of Dez last night. Jenkins had him alone all night.

I have trouble criticizing his game yesterday -- it was a win and the ball was fairly evenly distributed. It's not like he got a boatload of targets.

Having said that, he doesn't seem nearly as physically dominant as he did as Dez Bryant circa 2013-2014 and I wonder if we'll ever see 'that' Dez Bryant again.

I guess you missed the play where he got extra 5 yards while Landon Collins was hanging all over him.

As I said many times, Dez's biggest strength is getting him the ball on the run yet all we do is try to get him on routes that he has to stop to catch the ball.

Those crossing routes TWill was running last night, Dez would get more yards or even score.

So would you not say that he was respoonsible for 1 td and Dak had 2 overthrows for TDS in which he was open?

2 catches for 43 yards.

1 pass interference to get them the TD.

One overthrow from Dak which would have been an easy TD.

Another interference not called where he would have had a TD.

Many Dez bashers, year after year says he has games where he does not have an effect and without these sides notes they would point to this game as well.....

You can't really discuss this issue here. Anybody that criticizes Dez will be called a Hater and it will be repeated over and over.

There is a large group of people that believe Dez has Zero faults. They'll invent excuse after excuse for him:
It's the QB's fault.

It's the ref's fault.

It's the play-caller's fault.

It's the scheme.

The DBs cheated.

The Sun was in his eyes.

An opposing fan yelled bad words during his backswing...wrong sport.

The ball had too much air pressure.

Opponent fans shined lasers into his eyes.

Mara from the Giants paid a billion dollars for a device to deflects the trajectory of the ball just before it gets to Dez but this device only works against Dez and not other WRs.

There was an earthquake at the exact moment Dez was trying to catch the ball.

Effects of the Hurricane made their way to JerryWorld but just at the exact moments Dez was attempting to catch the ball.

He got dehydrated because opponents replaced his Gatorade with water from Krypton.

Finally, they'll tell you that Dez is a better actor than John Wayne.

Dez was taken out of the game by a single corner. Part of that is because he just can't get separation. His only ability to get separation is due to jump balls. He can do that.

Why don't the Cowboys have Dez run more routes or move Dez around? Most of you assume it is because the Cowboys are idiotic, but just maybe it is because Dez is ****ty route runner.

I am not anti-Dez. I am just realistic. We pay him way tooo much money to be a one trick pony. He is being paid top 5 receiver money, and I am sorry to burst your bubble but he isn't a top 5 receiver. He's just not.

I do think Dez should get a little bit more protection from the officials. I think the DBs get away with far too much grabbing on him. But his own game is about physicality. So its a bit of a wash there.
Again you are showing that you lack the ability to think beyond what you see on the screen.
So if Dez wasn't being thrown to on a given play then I guess you somehow know that he was single covered with no safety help...even though you can't see what he is doing down the field...you only see when Dak throws the ball to him and Dak is smart enough to not throw the ball to anyone in double coverage.

How do you know he was being played single coverage for the whole game?

The "elite" discussion is asinine anyway since there is no way to quantify it. Different people use different criteria. Is it top 2? Top 3? Top 5? Top 10?

Dez is a stud. I'm glad he's on my favorite team. He does things no other receiver can do. He doesn't do things other receivers can do. There aren't 10 better receivers in the league. There are surely three better, and probably five better. But when he's rolling, he's as unstoppable as any of them. That's why they try to get him the ball - sometimes to the point of forcing it.

To that same point I'd say Janoris Jenkins is a top 5-10 guy right now. At least he was last season. And looked like it last night. It's a good battle. Dez will face some other top CBs in the league this season, too. Starting with a pair this week in Denver. Looking forward to the battles myself. Talib, Harris, Peterson, Peters, Trufant, Sherman, Norman (some say, I think he's overrated), Jenkins again. Should be a good measuring stick when it's all said and done.

Positive notes.

We've begged for Dez to get fed targets. He did.

He will get better against lesser corners. Not many people work over Jenkins.

I literally have never heard anyone say this here. And neither have you.

But as a resident Dez hater who has had to shut his mouth since the second half of last year.... No surprise to see you here with a strawman argument.

I know it's been a rough 8 months for you. So I'll let you have the day. But not sure Dez could have made more of his opportunities. Long balls. Missed in the endzone. And other players taking advantage of easy/easier match ups.

We got the win.
