Do you think Dallas could make a trade for DE with the trade deadline looming?

If I was the front office I would explore the possibility of a trade. I would look at one of the teams who is done, SF, Cleveland or any other 1-5 team and see if there is a veteran player on the roster who can come in and help for the run. As an example, and just as an example, Brooks or Bowman in SF. If you can get them for a mid round draft choice, and their contract is workable, why not. Both those guys could definitely better than what we have now. Again, these two players I mentioned as just an example.
I don't think what you suggest is realistic.

DE's don't come cheap. Any team that has a good one isn't letting one go for less than a kings ransom.
The only thing harder would be trading for an elite QB

Who is out there that a team would be willing to part with that would be worth what Dallas would have to give up to get them?

No need. After four more games a suspended Cowboy defensive end and a suspended Cowboy middle linebacker will be available for the remaining four regular season games and the playoffs. No point in giving up anything for something you already have coming.
Gregory is out 14 games not 10 and Ro isn't going to play this season

Trades are nice but at least go after players like David Irving or Shaneil Jenkins. Irving is a small school freak of nature who was uber productive in the limited opportunities he had while Jenkins was a small school beast breaking records and dominating at the lower levels.

Go after players who have similar productivity and athleticism, who are basically low risk and super reward:

OLB/DE Davis Tull 6'2 250 4.5: Chattoonoga walk on who became the first 3 time SOCON player of the year since Dexter Coakley
DE James Cowser 6'3 255 4.6: 85 TT, 50 Solo, 27.5 TFL, 10.5 SK, 1 PBU, 4 QBH, 1 FR, 3 FF
DE Marcus Rush 6'2 245 4.6: Led the preseason in sacks
CB Zack Sanchez 5'11 180 4.5: undersized playmaker who is an INT magnet
LB Jordan Tripp 6'3 240 4.6 All Big Sky and FCS All-American LB
DE Zach Wagenmann 6'4 260: 3 time all-american; He had 17.5 sacks, 22.5 tackles for loss, and six forced fumbles. He was a first team FCS All-American, first team All-Big Sky, and Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year.
DE Lynden Trail 6'7 260: 91 TT, 32 Solo, 11.5 TFL, 5 SK, 4 PBU, 9 QBH, 1 FR, 2 FF, 2 BK

Most of the small school guys listed were Buchanan finalists. The award that goes to best small school player. Like Irving they are all ripe for the picking from some team's PS. Any of these guys have to be better than Wilber, Wilson, Gachkar or any of the two dozen FBs on the roster.

Or just re-sighn Shaneil Jenkins!

they need to do something to get a passrush, unless they didn't learn a damn thing from 2014.

can't get to QB = not going far in playoffs

Clowney is a pipe dream. Young pass rushers who are under control don't move, basically ever. Honestly, the best target was probably Cam Wake before the Phins won two games. Basically you are looking at older players who are alright players, if they only have one year left on contract that's more likely then more, unless the team is convinced it's not going to be contending within the life of the deal. Charles Johnson is an idea. You're looking at players who are probably the upper part of a rotation as opposed to an actual impact player, or just another part of the rotation.

But honestly cap issues pretty much dictate that players don't move unless they have almost no bonus.

Do you all think Dallas could make a trade for DE with the trade deadline looming? If so, who do guys think Dallas could target? Thanks in advance and GO COWBOYS!!!
Should most definitely pull the trigger. Trades rarely happen but trades in this situation (where it boosts your team's chances to win in December/January) most certainly do happen. We are a pass rush away from being a dominant SB contender...we need to target some teams in rebuild mode and be aggressive - even if it's someone with only a year or two left. How happy would we be right now if we had pulled the trigger on Feight Freeney when we had the chance his pre-season???

Honestly I don't think we have a very trade savvy front office. Since the great Haley trade, it seems like we always get burned or give more than we get. Just sayin.

I think it's naive to think Rolondo McClain plays football ever again. If he were interested in playing, why skip training camp?

Same goes for Gregory, after missing training camp, and being unable to be around the team, he will simply be unable to contribute

Charles Johnson? He is an FA after the season and Panthers are done. Seems like a declining player but maybe a change of scenery helps?

who? there is no one available.

Exactly. The only trade worth thinking about would be for a rising or established star, we've already got a handful of developmental DL with 'potential'. That leaves you with a very short list of players, if any, that another team would even consider trading. If that player materializes though, I'd be all over it,,, this team is entering that 'sweet spot' where a difference maker on defense would be huge.

When you have a young team that's still getting better, you don't have to mortgage your future on a veteran to win now. You do that when your window of opportunity is small (aging vets).

Merchetta, I would agree with you absolutely under normal circumstances but I think you are ignoring the most important "player" and his age. Jerry Jones is the aging vet and he's 74 years old. Jerry is also a nominee for the hall of fame.

Thus the urgency to make something happen now.

And Jerry is no stranger to these kinds of splash trades.

The NFL trading deadline is bogus........it is not late enough and that is after moving back recently
.....
Too many teams are still in it........in MLB it is 2/3rds thru the season
