This may sound as if I’m giving Dak a soft bed to land on if the season doesn’t work out, but there are two parts to the equation that will play a sizable role #4’s fortunes.
First is the O-Line, which to me feels precariously thin. We’re one Tyron Smith boo-boo away from playing the shell game, and how the first man up can perform with the starters will be paramount. Heaven forbid a second player (I’ve already penciled-in Tyron for missing significant time) goes down for even a brief stretch. Keep those fingers crossed. But who knows, maybe one of the young guys does step up admirably.
Part deux is Big Mike. The clip board (ipad, MacBook…whatever the hell they’re using) was taken from the man who guided the number one scoring offense in ’21 and followed that up with a number 3 ranking in ’22 and was placed in the meaty palms of a more run centric veteran leader that told a white lie to Mr. Jones regarding watching every snap of the 2019 season. At present, I don’t cheer, or jeer the move as I feel a larger sample size is certainly needed before armchair me can offer an opinion. As a Cowboys fan, I’m certainly in MM’s corner hoping that parting ways with KM was the way to go.
If either of these two question marks go south you can wager, fairly or unfairly, that Dak’s performance will be granted clemency in the eyes of the front office. And, when JJ spins the wheel of “You F’d Up My Season” the arrow will settle squarely between the shoulder blades of one Mr. Mike McCarthy.
Right now – it’s good to be Dak.
