That's very true. But sometimes it depends on the attitude of the poster. I've never seen a poster treated with great disrespect who said, "Hey, I know someone who told me this news and I have no reason to doubt him. If you don't believe me, cool, but here's what I heard."

Contrast that with the posters who have to make a huge production out of how important they are and feel the need to claim that anyone who doubts him is just a jealous fast-food worker who will never be as highly-paid and important as he is. I think we all know who I have in mind. ;)
Can I ask you a question on this CL? Because it's an interesting thought.

Which of those two categories would you put BrownSugar in? Which would you put me in? Which would you put Pittdawg in?

From where I sit BS always had a great attitude. I try to, not always good at it. Pittdawg was more gentleman than I am capable of.

Yet at times the 3 of us have all experienced the disdain you say is reserved for the 2nd example.

Why do you suppose that is?

He's still with us, but he's awfully busy these days. Getting married this Summer and launching a career.

I think a couple things happened with the Petitti/Pittdawg situation. I think, first, some people got a little too attached to the player just because his father posted here. I think that his father posting here certainly brought him a lot more support for the player than would happened otherwise. Then, I think, second, that that created a bit of a backlash.

But in any event, that's certainly not what I was talking about at all. Pitt had every reason to get upset and leave over the crap that was said. I was personally embarassed for the behavior of some very regular Zoners.

I think that is fair.

I know I did not like how Pittdawg was treated. He was just a father that cared for his son.

I think many people did indeed go beyond what was needed in order to goad him or act like internet tough guys.

Make no mistake Rob had his problems.

At the same time as you said I think people probably were more attached to Rob because his father posted here.

It goes both ways IMO.

But still I think there is a way to go about some things without being so rude.

Tell me how anyone here would feel if someone was going out of their way to rip on their son...I doubt they would care for it.

Kind of funny story about Pittdawg was when we drafted Rob someone told me that his father posted at his sons College football site.

So i went there and offered Pittdawg the address here and welcomed him.

At that time I told him it could get pretty rough on some players but he told me it could not get worse than the college board he had been posting at. I told him not to count on it.

For the most part Pittdawg came across as a pretty classy guy and did much better concerning his posting compared to what was being said about him or his son.

Sadly though at the end when rob was signed to New Orleans he came out and said some things that were uncalled for IMO. But even with that he never gave back as much as he got while he was here.

I disagree with the first paragraph 100%.

I agree with the 2nd one 100%.

Something about the Pittdawg situation I hope people learned. When fans tell me they' hate this guy for stealing from the team' or 'what a waste of space this guy is' aggravates me.

As fans who generally don't know the players, often times we forget that these players are out there doing a job and are real people. It isn't as if a bad player is trying to be a bad player - they are what they are. Some are more talented than others.

When a guy like Pettitti, who, by all acounts worked hard, played as hard as he could and did all that could be expected of him to be a good player gets ragged on for not being a better player, it aggravates me. When he is insulted and belittled, it infuriates me.

Can you imagine being a coach for the team, knowing these guys 7 their family and then having to cut them? There is a real world in this league and even with their pay, they deserve to be treated like human beings.

I'm not leaving myself out of blame for this either. Earlier in this thread I called Brandon Everage garbage. I should have used a better word, and made sure that I was only referring to his talent.

I recall when Parcells didn't dress Ebenezer Ekuban. He was goaded on this board, people felt he was 'stealing from us' and that he sucked because he wasn't living up to his draft status. Things like that are just completely uncalled for.

If you look at the way some posters respond, it is almost in terms of a "first-person" or coming from a professional knowledge base.

The proof is in the scoop and if it came to fruition.

I don't know that I am any more "connected" than a lot of folks here are. In fact, I know a couple of people here with great sources. The problem with having sources is, people treat you badly if you actually have some and mention it. Instead of appreciating that you share, they think you're trying to get accolades. So most who actually have legit sources don't share. We lost a great member because of this. On top of losing out there I got a PM from a family member of a player who watched how some on this forum treated Pittdawg. He said he would never post here because of it. That troubles me. Pisses me off actually.

In all honesty I feel my greatest connection to the team and information is this forum. We get news faster here than any major outlet. I have had more than one person in the media who reads this forum tell me that they are amazed at how we figure out almost every transaction and angle before they can, and they have sources we don't. No joke, the posters on this forum are extremely well informed and intuitive. There are some media who come here to get scoops. That thrills me.

I do have one source that I horde. I also do not trouble him for info. I just appreciate it when he throws me a bone. I don't get much from him, but when I do, it is someone not to be doubted. He was the one who assured me the Cowboys never tried to make a trade with New England for Ty Law despite someone (who shall remain nameless by me) claiming to be a college buddy of Scott Pioli and getting it directly from him. He also told me about the Cowboys trading for Drew Henson and what we were spending to get him. I shared that with only a few people and when it came out that I had called it the backlash from that was stupid. Thus I don't always share when I do get a scoop.

The funniest example of me having a "connection" will always be the Brandon Everage debacle. I'll never live that one down, and frankly I am glad of that. I've enjoyed the teasing and joking about far more than I enjoyed getting that tip. The craziest part of that whole fiasco was that BrainPaint actually gifted that scoop to me because I had "man love" for Everage. The guy contacted him, not me. I've never been able to figure out whether to cuss him for that or not.

:laugh2:

You also had a source on the Testaverde - Carter situation, didn't you? (i.e., who told you that from the moment Testaverde was signed, the plan was for him to start)

---

I had (past tense) a source who provided a little information about the Cowboys player acquisition plans for 2006. I didn't mention it, though, out of respect / concern for the source.

I presonally love it when someone gives us some inside information. Whether it's true or not, I guess I'm a glass half full type. :)

You, BrownSugar, and Pittdawg have always been in the first (good) category, of course. I never saw any of you post just for attention. She was innocently sharing information that she had, and it was always good info, from what I saw. Same with Pittdawg. I thought he had some interesting tidbits about workouts and whatnot.

I'm talking about one poster in particular who does the things I talked about: "You're just jealous because you're stuck on your coach eating fritos while I'm a big important NFL insider." Nonsense like that. One is automatically skeptical of a person like that... Especially when about half his predictions proved to be false.

In Pittdawg's case, I do think some took offense at the perceived idea that they should somehow never criticize a player who led the NFL in sacks allowed just because his dad posted here. That's different, though, than thinking his info was bad or that he was somehow a fraud. I don't think many, if any, people thought that... Did they?

As for why you and BS have been treated poorly, that's simple: Some people are just jerks. Their internet personas (how weak is that?) are so important to them that they must put others down to try to be funny. Once again, I have a few guys in mind when I say that, and they don't post here anymore. Seems like I read they even made their own board, or something. ;)

Same guy.

There is always a concern for your sources too. I know one guy on here who has known one of our former coaches for 16 years. No way he'd ever tell that here though. I don't blame him one bit.

All I know is that I began to notice that the Zone gets information faster than I was able to find it anywhere else. That has scoop written all over it; good reliable scoop. And not just about the COwboy franchise ...NFL teams in general (usually NFC-East teams).

Honestly the only time I was treated poorly was over the Henson acquisition and you're right that was a few Internet tough guys. Perhaps I wouldn't have been if I had shared it with the whole forum, but I had seen the way BS was treated and simply didn't want to put up with it. So I told Verdict, Chief, Dale, and Juke99, who all liked Henson as much as I did.

Juke asked if he could tell people I had scooped that. I said yes. I wish I hadn't. More because of the crap Juke put up with after that than what I put up with. I was already in their gunsights. He hadn't been, but has never been out of them since. The 4 of them could verify my claims, and they did, and it didn't matter. In all honesty I think it had more to do with it being because it was from me than anything else.

To me the greatest scoop this forum ever got was from Pittdawg about the death of Parcells' brother. He posted that here and it didn't hit the national media for almost 6 or 7 more hours. I still crack up when I think about how some of the other forums mocked that we allowed this "false rumor" to be stickied on our forum when no one was corroborating it. It "proved" we were a bunch of "attention ***** pretenders." Then when it was varified those threads on their forums disappeared.

Good times.
