Does Dak wait until the WR makes a cut to throw?

Actually I think this is what he learned a bit watching Rush with the quick reads and getting the ball out. He looked good yesterday with his timing with receivers. Honestly one of the better games I have seen him play!
I agree....he played great. I loved seeing him run again. AWESOME! TD baby!

It all comes down to what the play is, I am willing to bet every play there is at least 1 timing route, whether it gets looked at in the context of the play on the field depends on pre-snap reads. As to Dak throwing after a break the play will dictate. Can he make timing throws he can when he is "on", it is not his strongest suit. Some will think of this as criticism, but today he was very accurate in his placement, that is more important than whether he can throw timing throws. If he can't time a pass but put in a spot that is beneficial to the play that is fine. Yesterday there were a lot less of his receivers constantly reaching, or stopping to make catches that were off target.

I noted in my original comment these plays I want to look at? ....were completions. Or most of them anyway.

Thank you for your excellent reply!

Dak played very well today. There's no doubt. TONY TOO!

But I noticed when tv coverage showed the QB and WR in the same frame, the WR was already out of his cut by a couple strides before Dak threw it.

So I don;t know how big a deal this really is. And I bet he certainly threw some passes earlier than the WR cut. Just saying what I saw on several passes....all (or mostly) completed.

So big deal? Not? Will it matter more against better teams?
lets over analyze everything....not every pass play requires an anticipated throw. that's not how it happens for every NFL QB as some have you believe.....

Aikman and Irvin had it down to a science, but it took them several years to get there and know each other and trust each other.

What I'm saying is non of us have enough information to answer the question you're asking. We can't tell you if the play was ran perfectly or was there some sort of problem. So non of us can point the finger at what went wrong.

So who lied or made up some odd stuff? Because it wasn't me.
but but but, we can have our own perceptions and set out own expectations and subsequently have Dak fail our expectations.....that's how it works...lets nit pick every little thing possible. :eek:o_O

I think Dak prefers to throw to receivers and backs against zone coverage where they can find a soft spot and give him a still target.
To his tight ends, I think he throws after the cut.
I think this is a weakness in that he misses the open receivers and throws into coverage at times. But these receivers have to be open, because they don't fight for the ball well.
you have no idea which throw he is talking about..

furthermore, you have no idea what you just said...if I asked you to expand on this and explain the details...you would shiet your pants in fear...

78% passing, scoring TDs on your first four possessions and going 9-11 on third down is way more than PRETTY good. If that's not getting better, I don't know what is. What game were you watching?
but but but, that one throw that I thought should have been thrown with anticipation and before WR made the cut....he didn't meet my expectation. he is not any good and its a weakness....;)

Realistically this is an empty question because it is impossible to know the play. Unless you know the Cowboys playbook you cannot know if there are some plays where the WR will be at a specific point and you can just throw it knowing he will be there or if it is a play where the WR is making a read and you have to wait to see what he sees. Then there are also plays in between where based on the defense the route changes so you could in theory throw it as the route is developing, but lots of INTs come from WRs making the wrong read. Basically it depends on what the play is to know when the safe time to throw is.

I have been a critic of Dak... and yes the price tag matters because you are being paid as a 2-3 QB in the league but today he was excellent. Spot on with his throws and throwing into tight spaces. I have no agenda but the INT was not his fault. Even my wife mentioned that CD quit on his route. Dak was extremely efficient and we are 6-2 at the bye. As an aside... it ain't the 90s but that offensive line is very good. Your thoughts, please.

fwiw...he isn't

He's the 9th highest paid QB

And let's keep in mind, Brady *intentionally* takes less due to how much his now ex-wife makes

And there are 2-3 QBs on rookie deals who will surpass Dak in the near future

This is why most of the debate surrounding his contract never made any sense. Even if he was the highest paid QB in the NFL, it only ever would have been for a few days until most of the QBs from the 2017 draft (Mahomes and Watson) and 2018 draft (Allen and Jackson) signed long term deals and vets like Rogers and Wilson sign new deals.

The smart move would have been to sign him to a deal similar in size to Goff and Wentz *before* it was obvious how much better he was than them

Roger that!

As I said in my original post.

One thing that has to be acknowledged is that the stronger the arm the longer a guy can wait to make the throw. Dak may not have an Doug Williams or John Elway or Troy Aikman sized cannon but he can zip it in there with the best of this era. It seems to bother a lot of alleged Cowboy fans to say it but Dak can throw the ball REALLY fast and REALLY accurately. He is light years better than he was as a rookie and is still improving. He came into the league as essentially a throwing fullback having received next to nothing in the way of real preparation to play the position at an NFL level. He's not perfect by any stretch.. but his book is not written yet. He is better now than he was 5 years ago and he will be better in 5 years than he is now. That's the thing we Cowboy fans should be most excited about.

Again let’s not try and get better. Settle for good enough not best.

I don't know, but 21/27 for 250 yards and 2 TDs is pretty good to me. The pick, not so much. What ever he's doing, it must be working.
3 tds he ran one in, 114 QBR 9-11 on 3rd down some nice runs, last week 75%n compl% 113qbr some fans are nitpicking. IT gets old..

dak was red hot since the 4th qtr last week and won both game far more efficiently then rush so why don't it matter. Hes here another reason to why doesn't it matters, hes not going anywhere as his contact dictates that, so why does it matter...??

Daks still top 10 qb no matter how a fan tries hard to says hes not..we a have liked hater as an offense even last week since daks been back..all of sudden Gallup and Schultz look closer to their old selves.. not a coincidence.

agreed

I often think Dak holds the ball too long. I didn't see that this game. For the most part quick reads and got the ball out of his hands.

It also bears mentioning that Dak has not exactly had the greatest coaching in his NFL career. His biggest leap as a passer came when Kitna was the QB coach but for whatever reason they chose not to keep him around when they fired Garrett. I'm not really all that impressed with Nussmeier but he's who we got. But suffice it to say there are better QB gurus around the league.. One of them might be our head coach..

Like every QB in the league. He does both. It depends on the play and his reads. The All-22 angles will show you this more clearly if you go frame by frame.
I call BS, all other top QBs throw with anticipation, every pass play, 100% of the time. Dak doesn't throw with anticipation ever, 0% of the time....

I want to criticize something about Dak and that's my stand
