We need a WR or 2 as well.

But I don't think that's the tipping point for this team. Dez - despite his lack of productivity - isn't going anywhere. I think we can add a receiver AND improve the defense. But we have the main pieces in place on offense. We need a dependable pass rusher BADLY!!!!

Is Collins or Tapper making any progress were we might consider them coming off of IR?

Very disapointing if true but I refuse to complain about this draft class.

ONly update I could find. Timeline would have him out for another 5-6 weeks I would think. COULD put him back if all goes perfect around our 14th game of the season. (Lions game?) Which would potentially be the same week Gregory would be eligible to come back. Probably a long shot for both BUT....you never know

if i remember correctly, he has 3 weeks to practice.
at which point he would have to go on the roster.
if correct, the big decision comes in 3 weeks.
however, there may be a requirement to pass a physical today.
not sure if he can pass the physical if not fully recovered...
like the OP said, no one knows the requirement for what practice is.

however, if he practices today, this place will have a melt down.
either way, IR or practice today, we get some info today...
I believe you are right. I think he can start practicing this week, not has to

It's the day after the 11th week in the NFL that matters. So the Tuesday after the Washington game is the day he has to start practicing. What that is is what's not clear. Does he have to pass a physical? Does he simply have to be out there working out? Thats a little unclear.

If they can work around that, he has to then be added to the 53 or IR the Tuesday following the 14th week of the NFL season. So he either has 3 weeks or 6 weeks depending on the specifics of what practicing means. Either way, it seems irrelevant. He looks destined for IR this year.

I haven't paid much attention to what's going on, has there been any sort of update on if/when with Smith?

Nothing. Basically just waiting to see if he starts to practice. The Cowboys have to add him to make a final decision on November 28th, it appears.

Exactly....he had to miss 6 weeks on NFI
the team then has 5 weeks to start him at practice(not on 53) or IR him for the year
after 1st practice they have 21 days to activate him to the 53 or IR him for the year

he has 2 weeks from tomorrow.....11/23 at 4pm......to start practice.....as far as I know, no physical is required to practice

He's playing the odds and I agree with him, Smith won't be playing this season. He had no OTA's, training camp or preseason action. He's been doing nothing but rehabbing for months and would have no chance of having any success if he's thrown into games against players in mid season form. The team isn't going to risk something going wrong, they're going to want him to have a full offseason or proper work before playing him in games that matter.

I think Tapper is done until 2017, Broaddus had mentioned he thinks his back is not going to allow him to come back this year, we will know either way soon enough.

if no physical is required, then what is the harm to 'start' him at practice in 3 weeks.
the big decision would be 3 weeks after 3 weeks - which would be the roster spot.
did i get that right?
