Does the Cardinals flat out releasing Deandre Hopkins lessen the blow for what we got for Amari?

so did the az gm come out and say they were getting rid of Hopkins no matter what?
People really think Jerry coming out and saying what he said is why we didn't get more lol. These owners/gm's all talk lol. They know when guys are getting released and they know if they want to trade for them.

Yeah we didn’t miss him at all last year….smh
We had Noah brown and a gimpy Gallup.
I’d argue it cost us a few games. We could’ve cut him this off-season just as easily.
The technically were a better overall team without Cooper. Yes, our QB missed him at times. But the locker room didn't and him leaving took's Lamb's game to another level that even Cooper isn't at.

There was no blow. It was a smart move unloading the contract of a receiver who just lost his job to Lamb. You don't make that guy your #2 after that. lol
This is a interesting take, I agree.

One has nothing to do with the other.
Agree! Amari was still considered a top end WR. People were saying he saved our season when he got here. Hopkins was a legit “best WR in NFL” and then a steep dropoff. Two different stories. Also market was hotter for WRs when Amari traded. People were getting crazy value…but is. The revisionist history here for the FO is nuts

I don't think you can compare the two. Cooper was still in his prime, although he did have a rough season leading up to the trade. Dallas was a contender, and didn't have much in the receiver room behind Lamb and Cooper.

Hopkins is heading into the twilight of his career. At one point he was the best in the game, but injuries are piling up and he isn't as explosive as he used to be. He may still have something left in the tank, but it's too much of a gamble to trade for the guy and pay his salary, not knowing if you'll be getting 2022 Hopkins or 2018 Hopkins.

That's not even factoring in the fact that Arizona is a complete dumpster fire and is moving towards a major rebuild. Not much room for a guy that may not have anything left in a year or two. Cooper provided value to Dallas. It cannot be argued that Dallas had one of the most explosive offenses in the league when he was on the field. That offense with last seasons defense would've been lethal. To let that go for a 5th and not find an adequate replacement was a major blunder any way you look at it.

I guess. But the cardinals are a terribly run team. Its hard to gage it.

Half the board wanted to give up a 2nd rounder for him too
Right. I said it in another thread. People wanted to trade a 3rd for Cooks....and trade a 2nd for D Hop.....just for both to be available for less. And then these same fans get mad when the front office doesn't listen to them lol.

No. Because the cowboys clearly still needed cooper. This would be a better off-season to have dumped him.

Both teams got rid of their #1 receiver for salary cap purposes.....huh?
That's completely lacking context.

One of them was 32 and had missed a combined 14 games in the last 2 years.

The other was 27, had only missed 2 games combined the last 2 years, and was viewed as a fringe top 10 WR.

Isn't it crazy that Cowboys essentially couldn't get much more than a 5th for Amari and Cardinals can't find any takers for Hopkins? Do you guys still fault the front office for not being able to get much for Amari?
No completely different. Amari was relatively healthy, only 27, and was viewed at the time as a fringe top 10 WR (at worst fringe top 15).

Hopkins has missed 14 games the last 2 years, is 32, and rumor has it wanted a big dollar extension when his current extension hadn't even hit the books yet.

We turned a first round pick into a 5th rounder in short order. THAT is a FAIL! You can mince your words, but we turned a Ferrari into a burnt out Fiero.

Hopkins is 30 years old and when healthy a top 10 receiver. Superior to anything Amari has ever been.

That's typically what happens when guys get older and sign 100 million dollar contracts.

Hopkins is 30 years old not 32. And the reason he's missed time is because of being suspended. Two years ago he got hurt.
