Dolphins have released Zach Thomas

I desperately want this team to add a vet leader on defense. Unfortunately, I think Thomas might be at the end of the line.

Atleast if he is on our team he cant be embarassed by Barber again..... well... only in practice anyways :laugh2:

Unless Barber goes to Miami

yes lets bring in an old veteran thats all used to age our team even more this would be like Rivera all over again

That's what it's all about.

I do agree he's probably finished, though. His family will likely talk him into hanging it up, rather than risking his health any longer.

I've combed the free agent lists trying to find that guy without much luck. Ideally, it'd be a guy that'd shore up a questionable position....ILB, S, CB.

I considered Clark Haggans, but he plays outside and I doubt he'd see the field much. Plus I think he's lost a step as well.

I can see the point about age and recent injury history, but I think the trade off is that Thomas would certainly be an upgrade over Akin Ayodele.

In two seasons, Ayodele has shown to be JAG who doesn't make plays. Thomas would be a solid veretan presence who would not only improve that position, but I think pick up the defense's overall intensity level.

I think the rewards would outweigh the risks.

But the point is probably moot as I feel he'll most likely retire.

FWIW Kavika Mitchell is a FA. He showed some blitz AND coverage skills this year.

He should probably retire.

If he decides to come back and has anything left, I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up here though.

per Glazer on FoxSports.

I'd sure like to have a guy that competent in coverage, smart, and fiery on this team in a well-defined role.

Linebackers coach? :laugh2:

We don't need an over the hill cheerleader type of guy. See Marco Rivera for a perfect example.

Or ask the Ravens how that Ray "Any Dogs in the House" Lewis pregame chant is working for 'em.

Well if you listen to folks on here, an on-field cheerleader with passion and fire is exactly what this team needs. Doesn't matter if he misses the tackle as long as he gets up and yells "aaaggghhhh!!!"

Didn't he hurt his neck? Not a good injury for a lb.

He has been a great player but he's too small for a 3-4.

He has no neck...so...

Too small? They said he was too small to play in the NFL.

We need to sign this guy as humanly as not possible.

I don't think he fits in a 3-4 well at all for those of you wishing Dallas bring him in...

Didn't he play some 3-4 while he was in Miami?

Thomas has no chance, at all, of coming here. He's at the end of the line and I was told by a friend earlier that they read where he said he'll likely retire unless he lands with a team that has a legit Superbowl shot.

The only team I could possibly see him actually playing for is the Patriots, who like to have the older linebackers, and at ILB he could replace a Seau (I think he plays inside) whose about 4 years older.

I, however, think he's done. He's concussion prone now and thats just not something you play around with.

Is it out of the question to think that Zach Thomas could be an improvement over Akin Ayodele?

It is when you have a player who's one hit away from his brain being mashed potatoes. I'd rather not go for a guy coming off a major head injury...

And to be very clear, if Ayodele is to be replaced, just draft one and go younger vs older.
