Dom Capers has been offered a position by the Cowboys as...

Are you responding to me or wilee? :laugh2:

Also, gotta love the hyper-speculation in your post, Mr. Kettle.

Maybe bach thinks that if their is already a successor and Wade is a lame duck, then just go ahead and name the successor as HC. Gee, that might be too logical.

Or maybe if the successor isn't ready yet, then let Wade hire his own assistants and when the successor is named HC, then go ahead and let him hire his assistants.

But, you may want to ask bach that. Of course, comprehending it is solely up to the reader.

then show me some GM moves jones has made you didn't have some form of a problem with and gave him credit for it online and in public.

ONE will do. we'll start there. if you can't do that, then my albiet speculation has more ground than your jones bashing.

...either a positions coach or Defensive Coordinator...

This according to KTCK...

It would be interesting if he was offered the DC job...

Capers hired Brian Stewart in Houston as an assistant...

Apparently Capers called Stewart to ask him if he had a problem with him becoming DC and Stewart said yes. Dallas brought him in anyway for the interview...

Many think Stewart is in over his head and it would be awkward for him to sit in on meetings with Phillips, Capers and Campo. It seems like it would also be uncomfortable for Phillips in regards to Stewart...

It seems that Jerry is the one doing the hiring which may or may not be fine with Phillips...

Phillips spoke with Campo about WHO he thought would be good as a DB coach and not about a job, then Jerry hired him. Phillips also wanted Solari and Jerry hired Houck (good)... __________________

Talk about massive speculation...

Reeks of too much coincidence that this is all happening *after* it becomes known that Garrett wanted to take Capers to Baltimore. If they really wanted to upgrade earlier, they could have had Capers in town the day after he was let go.

You're right ... if the Cowboys truly wanted Capers, they sure did take their sweet time didn't they? What's even more strange is that they're putting all of this effort and time into bringing in a superfluous "consultant" while there's still an open spot left of the coaching staff that needs to be filled (OLB Coach), that you would think would be a higher priority.

Certainly seems like the the sudden desire to bring in Capers (in any role necessary) might be part of Jerry/Garrett's agreement to stick around another year. We know that after Garrett made his 2nd round of interviews with Baltimore and Atlanta that he returned to Dallas and Jerry made his final pitch for keeping him here. Maybe Garrett voiced concern to Jerry that if he waits another year to take a HC job he might not be able to fill his staff (aka Capers might not be available next year). With Capers under contract with the Cowboys, problem solved.

Dom Capers' defensive rank in his last six years as a head coach/DC:

Yards - Points

13 - 20
31 - 27
23 - 15
31 - 32
18 - 15
4 - 5
23 - 30

Why again is he such an upgrade?

He's not necessarily. People may feel comfort if Wade is fired next year, though, but it would be a massive step down from Wade to Capers.

I think you may be leaving out some other key moves that GM's handle. How many holdouts has Dallas has to deal with both in signing of FA and rookies?

so jones *can* do things right in the GM role, is this what you're saying in the end?

I think Jerry should have hired some help for Tony Sparano, cause that offensive line just completely crashed in the second-half....

i really hated to see him go.
Rare combination of good player on the field and seemingly a good person off the field, which totally means a good FA pickup in my eyes.

I never said he couldn't. He's generally best when he takes a less active role, like during Jimmy and BP's tenure. BP's probably would've been better if JJ's role was even less active than it were.

But yeah, in 19 years Jerry has done some good things. Although drafting isn't one of his strong suits.
