it just takes some people longer than others to leave the past where it belongs.

I think many of us who are defending Jerry right now have also come down on Jerry in the past when mistakes were made. Right now I don't see anything Jerry has done wrong. I have seen write-ups with people opinion of what is happening but nothing concrete

That's my stance as well. It's not as if I was defending Jones come hell or highwater when we signed Tony Banks, drafted Quincy Carter and Tony Dixon, cut Tony Banks after 2 preseason games and started Carter when it was apparent Anthony Wright was the best QB on the team.

My reaction then was wth?

This current "controversy" is much ado about nothing, imo.

Wondering about Stewart.....

Wasnt it Stewart that made Canty or Hatcher run hard before stretching? and then that player pulled a hammy and was out for awhile....

Mabye incidents like this is why Jerry and Wade are looking for a better more experienced DC.

Just wondering....Garrett in his first year....received calls for HC jobs.....Stewart first yr at DC .....nada.

Maybe the Cowboys organization is thinking about a upgrade and maybe seeing the Giants score with 40 secs left on the clock and how are pass defense struggled all year in zone coverage Wade....Jerry and Co....thought some tweaking was needed.

What's worse is that in the four years Jimmy was in Miami ('96-'99) he actually had a better record overall than we did, even though we started out that time period as the defending Super Bowl champs.

Yet the heroes of 3 playoffs wins between 95-96 was Deion Sanders, George Teague, and Chris Boniol.

 Jimmy players?

True. Dallas missed on draft picks and was unable to do anything significant in FA due to cap restraints. We did not go out and get guys like Coyrate and Leaf because of their great play we got them because they were player who came cheap and could fit within that restricted cap.

that was still jimmy's team and you know it. you single out 3 players but forget to mention the 3 on offense that had a bigger part of our success in those years

In only one of those seasons did Miami have a better record than us. Twice we finished with the same record (10-6 in 98, 8-8 in 99) Jimmy never beat Dallas in his tenure there. Sure they eked out a couple of wildcard wins whereas we had one in that period. Would it have mattered if we had gone on to lose by a score of 38-3 to the Falcons or 62-7 to the Rams? Because that's what happened to Jimmy's Dolphins teams

Let's not make like the Dolphins were heads and shoulders above the Cowboys in that era.

Just like you single out 2 playoff wins for Jimmy Team while ignoring the 5 playoff wins and Superbowl win from Jerrys team ......

The difference is that you give all the credit to Jimmy ...... while I give it to both men equally since neither has found much success building a team without the other. (until now)

People also seem to forget that it got pretty heated in Miami between Jimmy Johnson and Dan Marino.... JJ doesn't get along with everybody either....

:laugh2: it wasn't jerry's team. you give jerry way to much credit. he was great pre-salary cap because he could buy all the good players he wanted like steinbreiner. since the cap without jimmy's players he's been a bad gm except i guess for this year.

Yeah IIRC, Johnson wanted to get rid of Marino and start Craig Erickson/Damon Huard or draft a new QB. Except Wayne Huizanga wanted nothing of it. Marino could have been Miami's version of Herschel Walker ow that I think of it if they tried to unload him after 1996.

I applaud Stewart for his honesty.

He handled it like a man instead of letting it manifest and effect everyone on that side of the ball.

It sounds like Capers asked him the question anyways and Stewart gave an honest answer.

If you can't communicate then you got problems and I love the fact they can communicate that honestly with each other.

If we get Capers or not this wasn't a bad thing.

There are some serious factual errors in your post. At only one timeduring Jimmy/Jerry's tenure together in Dallas was there free agency in its current format. That was the 1993 offseason and Dallas was relativley quiet, losing only Steve Beurlein and Kelvin Martin while adding nobody of any importance.

Prior to that there only existed Plan B free agency where teams could offer a list of unprotected players that were free to sign anywhere they chose. Players whose contract ran out could sign with someone else but would have to give compensation in the form of a trade.

At no point could Jerry have been "great pre-salary cap because he could buy all the good players he wanted like Steinbrenner."

I don't think you get my point. Jerry could not have spent like crazy then because if he wanted a premium free agent he would have had to give up compensation for that player. You do that enough and you end up costing the team.
