I never said he couldn't. He's generally best when he takes a less active role, like during Jimmy and BP's tenure. BP's probably would've been better if JJ's role was even less active than it were.

But yeah, in 19 years Jerry has done some good things. Although drafting isn't one of his strong suits.

whew. i'm going to stop now. thank you at least for this much. i just wish you could see how you post as it appears many of us do - jones can't win - period. he's made some monumental boners in his time - carter being a huge one. hutch being a bargain hunters "you get what you pay for" nightmare.

but since he went out and got BP i do see a lot of different moves and i just can't hold his past against him so quickly w/o giving the benefit of the doubt.

all i've ever been trying to say.

Come on man... even Jerry is to blame for BP performing just average with the Cowboys... If it weren't for Jerry, than BP would have taken us to the play-offs and beyond....

Jerry is surely powerless at running a football organization, but he is strong enough to influence Bill Parcells into becoming just average...

My, I just love Bach's logic...

Maybe so. But the last several years, the draft has been pretty solid for us.

The question is, how much did Jerry really play a role in it?

I could easily just switch a few names and this would sound like the average Extremeskins post.
It's always convenient to shut down discussion by comparing someone to an Extreme Skins poster.

Where did you learn that ad hominem attacks are effective?

Well, it couldn't have been BP, because according to Bach, Jerry was too influential even when BP was here, otherwise Bill would have done much better...

Rare combination of good player on the field and seemingly a good person off the field, which totally means a good FA pickup in my eyes.

He was a better 4-3 player. He played well in Dallas, but his Pro Bowls I believe were more reputation that deserving based on his play. He didn't produce the same great numbers in Dallas as he did in New Orleans. Add in the fact that he was entering the back nine of his career (over 30) and Canty, Spears, and Ware with a year under their belts. They felt he was expendable. I don't blame them considering his last season wasn't even as productive, but it was to be expected with Canty, Spears, and Ware getting playing time.

Nevermind the fact that it was the offense that failed us down the stretch and in the playoff game, not the defense.

Man that offense allowed the seven points in 43 seconds?;)

Well, the way I gauge Jerry's progress as a GM is to look at the past two years when he was in control(i.e no BP), meaning 2002 and 2007

He acquired in those two offseasons:
Laroi Glover-
Roy Williams
Andre Gurode
Ken Hamlin
Leonard Davis.
Nick Folk

That's six Pro Bowlers in two offseasons, pretty good imo

add to that the potential of guys like Spencer, Free , Cricket it's fair to say Jerry has done a good job as GM since the bottom fell out in 2001.

and apparently Jerry can help acquire good coaches as well.

What more can one realistically ask from him?

it just takes some people longer than others to leave the past where it belongs.

I don't question why they released him. Never did. He was not a 3-4 NG. And with the complete transition to the 3-4, it made complete sense.

However, he was still a good FA pickup for the 'boys.

nothing. She just happened to pop up on my tv on nfl network. She is gorgeous.

I think her music is unlistenable, but damn, she is hott.

She looks better right now than she did in smoking aces, a movie by the way that was awful.

Best linemen they had when the picked him up in 2002. (Best front seven player they had till they picked up Ware) To bad he was such a bad influence on Dwayne Goodrich. :laugh2:
