I do think the HC should hire his own staff. As for BP, I really don't care about the Dolphins, so as far as I'm concerned, the equipment manager could doing the hiring down there and I wouldn't care one bit.

But I know the situation in Miami is a little different because everyone is coming in new all at once. While Sparano wasn't officially hired until after the Cowboys season was over, because that's the rule, we all know he was already the choice before then and I'm sure was involved in the process. But if I were a Dolphins fan, I would prefer him to have the say in who is on his staff.

Now I think it would be a bigger issue in the future if they have a staff in place and BP were to start making hires for the staff instead of the HC.

Ok, a little off the Dom Capers topic, but this is to defend Wade not being a yes-man. I just got done watching the Campo press conference and Wade's responses to the questions about knowing Campo, why choosing him...etc did not seem like answers that were made up. I really think Wade is happy to have Campo, just like I think he'd be excited to bring Dom Capers on board as well. When you think about it this staff could sort of mirror Pittsburgh in that when Tomlin took over there was a solid staff in place, so no matter if it's Wade in 08 and Garrett in 09 both of these guys have to be excited about this staff and the potential of bringing Capers on board. Don't forget Campo drafted Roy and coached Henry in Cleveland and I think that's more important that trying to blame or defend the hiring of these assistants is to only concern yourself with their familiarity with the schemes or the players.

Campo is a little different. I could see Wade not being able to get who he wanted, Jerry suggesting him as a guy they might go after, Wade seeing his resume and agreeing that he's a good position coach he can work with, and the hire being made.

Capers is another thing altogether. You're talking about bringing in a coordinator or overseer or whatever to basically replace the guy the head coach just brought in last year -- not just a position coach.

If I'm in Jerry's shoes, I hire a HC and allow the HC to decide who is on his staff. If I don't have faith enough in the HC I hired to make these decisions, then I find one that I do have faith in.

Doesn't make an ounce of sense to go about hiring the staff for the HC. Anyone that has ever worked in an organization should know how things end up working. Guys that are brought in by the HC will likely feel more loyalty towards him. Guys brought in by Jerry or Garrett will probably have a stronger link with them. Sure, you may be able to make it work, but it's not an ideal situation. It's what causes undermining to happen in the first place. People can scoff at this, but it is a potentially real problem that can be averted rather easily, but it's up to the man at the top.

Do I think Capers is better than Stewart? Of course. I also wonder why you need Capers when you have Wade. How many chiefs are necessary?



I don't think it's silly to post about what is going on. I do think it's silly to have people constantly deny what's happening. What swoon? It's all Wade? etc. ... I also agree that back and forth about all that is silly though.

Apparently this board is more attuned to those who want to have a rosy picture painted regardless of what may actually be happening. So be it.

The point is, you don't know that he isn't doing exactly that. It's all speculation.

C'mon now. We for a fact know the OC was hired before Wade. We know for a fact the OC just got a raise that brought his salary up to where Wade is at.

As for speculation, it was reported that Wade wanted Solari but Jerry got Houck. Capers is being courted right after Garrett was sai to have him lined up if he took the Ravens job. Campo has no ties to Wade.

So I agree these recent staff moves are speculation - there are far more signs that point to it being done by Jerry with Garrett in mind, than it is just Wade trying to fill out his own staff. It takes much more twisting to try and spin the latter.

Sorry, I don't agree with this. It happens all the time in the NFL that teams present HCs with staff. I think this is a drum that has been beaten to death and was never in tune to begin with.

More often than not when this does happen, it's a new HC retaining some of the former staff. Very rarely do you see management hiring staff for an existing HC. And very rarely if ever do you see management hiring staff for a HC in waiting, while the current HC is here. Of course, I know this is all just speculation regardless of what we actually see.

Abraham Lincoln was once chastised for building a cabinet of people more qualified than he was. He said, "that is the only true way to succeed. Get the best people for the jobs."

The thing here is that it was Abe building his own cabinet. If Wade wants to bring in coaches for his staff more qualified than he is, then more power to him.

This forum allows both viewpoints. I know several where if you preach against the feelings of the staff (who are chosen often because they do agree with everything each other say) you're gone.
