Cobb's not worse than Beasley and while Quinn may not be a significant upgrade over Gregory at his best--how many games did we have Gregory at his best?
Cobb doesn't win against 1-1 coverage as well as Beasley, and that's all the cowboys ask their slot players to do. Beasley was perfect for what they wanted there.

How many games has Quinn played at his best in the last two years? The point is, you get the same production from that position that you got last year.

I think Quinn is a big upgrade from Gregory. Last year was Gregory best season with 6 sacks and he can't be counted on. As for Cobb health is the issue but he is able to play outside or in the slot making him more diverse than Beasley.

I saw Det. GM say they will not fill out their roster with Vet FA players which often times this late into the off season the FA market can offer up some good bargains. Do you believe Cowboys will make any moves with remaining NFL vet Free agents? Some interesting names still out on the FA market

Ansah
Suh
Tre Boston

There is some talent out there. If I thought we were like the Rams last year where we are a player away from making the SB, I would go out and sign Suh & Ansah.
Those would be all in moves for one year, and still might not be a bad idea. If we think the NFC is that wide open, sign these guys and try to make the SB.
There is no commitment after this year. This is exactly how the Niners beat us in 94. They were the first team to go the mercenary route and win the SB.
The Eagles did this a couple of years ago, the Bears & Rams last year.
My biggest hesitation is not trusting JG. The man does not have an innovative bone in his body. You cannot win in todays league being as predictable as this offense is.
For a team that runs as much as we do, we do not implement play action. If my wife who does not care about football asks me why do the Cowboys run up the middle and gain 3 yards? Her question is appropriate.
In today's analytic driven environment, we should have a better offense. Some plays just are not worth running. To bring this to a basketball analogy, the NBA figured out that a mid range 2 point shot or a pass to the post is not as efficient as taking a three, why cant JG figure out running a 50 gut on first down every possession is wasting a down?

Well, that the rub. We can ask Cobb to go outside and have Cooper or someone else in the slot. It opens up what we can do because we're not limited by a one-dimensional player that can only play in one spot.

They will grab a vet LB and maybe a Safety or Corner. Thats about it. No one will cost more than 1-3 M a year.

This is such flawed thinking. Cooper is going to get all the attention, it doesn't matter if he's inside or outside. Now teams don't have to bracket Beasley, they can just bracket Cooper, and you've got a worse weapon on the outside.

Cobb can play slot and outside. He's average at both. he doesn't give you anything on the outside that Terrence Williams didn't.
He has 15 sacks and 31 games played to Randy's 7 sacks and 16 games.
That doesn't answer anything.

Amazing what some believe will be a vet sign and what they can bring to the table. There is no way Dez is going to be signed, that bridge has been cratered. To much of his behavior doesn't fit for the Cowboys and apparently any team because really thought the Saints would resign him. I like the Berry deal but only, only for the vet minimum because of the injury factor.

There are going to be other guys released over the next couple of months mainly due to some draft pick taking their spot so as Stephen says procuring talent is 365 days a year. You want a safety that fits what Richard likes in secondary then look to Green Bay with Josh Johnson who is more than likely odd man out in Green Bay now. He is 6'2" and 220 and a good run stopping safety but not great coverage skills. He was a 2nd rounder (#45) in 2018 so only 23, attend high school in Dallas, and was on the Dallas radar last year. Maybe a trade of player for player, who knows but somehow betting they address S before training camp.

There are not that many open slots on this team at the moment and they need to keep these cheap young guys to be able to keep signing their
stars to giant contracts. I suspect that even some of the FA guys they brought in will not make the 53. We are near the youngest team in the
league for a reason...money!

Just so we understand. You go into a thread about players that we can sign currently, and one of your comments is "if he is so good why is he still out there", which would apply to every single player that any poster mentions.
but that's the point.....that's a question we have to ask. if they are available, then there is a fit issue, skill issue, age issue, etc. what's the fit for the team given current roster.

So teams should never move around WRs to exploit match-ups, be unpredictable, eh? That is the flawed thinking. It will be nice to have someone in the slot that can down field up the seam or have the slot run a go route down field and clear the safety from run support.

T. Will, lol? Cobb can catch with his hands.

That doesn't answer anything.

It does if you value production and availability.

Actually think they might steal a released player. Some team believes that draft pick is better than what they already have. Either salary or just plain Talent.

Sure it does, it is sack and game totals over the last two years.
Which has absoluutely 0 correlation to "how many games do we get his best"

Quinn had 1 sack through 9 games last year. The inconsistency is the same as Gregory.

Redzone weapon
He was one of the best in NFL history and we currently have none outside of Dak's legs

About 8 teams have to release players in order to sign their draft picks. Those teams are tight against the cap.
