I hope the Seahags trade Thomas to Dallas for a reasonable deal.

It doesn’t make any sense for the Seahags to keep him now. It’s not that hard for that organization to gain a draft pick (second or third) by trade and free up cap space.

I might give them a conditional 3rd round pick that becomes a 2nd rounder if he makes All-Pro level. But not a straight up 2nd. That's too high a price to pay for someone you then also have to give a mega-deal to. Not anyone's recipe for success.[/QUO
It's the instincts and the knowledge that you are paying for WHILE he plays at an elite level. Everything that he does and how he does it, our young DBs will soak it up like a sponge and incorporate it. It's not just his presence alone. He will make the other guys get better and be better because he is out there with them. A third round pick is what they'd get as a compensatory pick after he is gone. He is already and all pro he isn't working to be one. If he were 26 Wed pay a 1st round pick for him but because he is 29 and still elite last year Wed have to give a second round pick for him. There are no second round picks in this past draft that will make the impact that he does year in and year out. It's not about how many interceptions. It's about detouring the qbs helping your DBs and also helping vs the run game.

A proven TE could apparently be a real blessing for us. ET would still be obliged to keep his contract demands minimal, tho. It'd be asking a lot.

I'm not expecting "minimal" by any stretch. $10 million a year is far from that. But if it's true that he's looking for more money than the $13 million a year that Eric Berry got? Then he's being unreasonable. To Seattle, and anyone else.

There are also "no 2nd round picks" that would cost in excess of $10 million a year. That factors into any equations as well.

The whole secondary is having a great camp! And so far the coaches like woods and for some reason believe in heath a little as well.

I've read them from Twitter as well as from cowboys articles here and there. It's their words, not mines. I just read and take in the info!

Ok, I've read and heard good reports on the corners, nothing about the safeties. There's a distinction for me.

I don't think "1 year" is an option. Not for anybody.

Reading what he said, it's about getting a long term deal and security. Anyone trading for him realizes that the new deal is required. Otherwise, you just traded for Seattle's headache and holdout.

I meant as in getting him 1 year earlier than when he becomes a FA barring Seattle using the franchise tag.

But seriously though youd have to think of the confadence level of the youngsters if you sign Earl. The cowboys have already expressed their trust in that group.

So far they are having a great camp also and the earlier they are thrown into the fire the more experience and better they get.

The interest for me is not only the talent level but the benefit of having another field general especially if Lee goes down.

I'm thinking conservative conditions favoring the Cowboys. The only reason a 2nd is in conversation is for Seahawks to save face with fans. To be honest, this needs to happen soon, otherwise, his value is dropping after the 2nd preseason game IMO.

It looks like a classic staredown to me. With the player trying to push things along from the sideline.

I was just about to post that link!

It's a good read, and I think he used the opportunity to express his position quite well.

I can't help but to think that he's ultimately traded. From all indications, the Seahawks have made it clear that they don't want - and don't intend - to give him an extension. So if option A is off the table, that leaves only option B.
With our luck, he'll probably get traded to the Pats and go on to have another 2 to 3 years of Pro Bowl play.

You don't pay 30 year old S's huge contracts. That's the sort of move that keeps you out of the super bowl.

That is true too which is why I am torn!

Lee and Thomas on the field at the same time directing traffic would be insane.

Off the top of my head, don't the Patriots already have a pretty good pair of well-paid safeties?

Agreed and I don't think Seattle would franchise him. Current franchise for a safety is over $11 mill and will probably be near $12 next. If Seattle won't pay him $13 now, I doubt they'd pay him $12 a year later.

There is another element though, and that's ET's contract. No team will give up a significant draft pick unless they are sure they can get a contract extension the can live with.

They might, because the franchise tag is just one year, and I think the problem Seattle has with giving ET the extension is that it would be a multi year deal with a lot more guaranteed money than $12 or $13 million
