I don't think "1 year" is an option. Not for anybody.

Reading what he said, it's about getting a long term deal and security. Anyone trading for him realizes that the new deal is required. Otherwise, you just traded for Seattle's headache and holdout.

The last 5 are all expected to be big contributors this season and into the future. There are some Pro Bowlers in this group. Considering the NFL bust rate of 2nd rounders, the Cowboys look to be doing well.

There have been some hiccups and late bloomers, but it's now looking like those will bear fruit this year a short well. Things have turned around.

1. 29 is not old for great safeties. See Ed Reed, Charles Woodson, Rod Woodson, etc, etc.
2. They benefitted from him far more than he did them.
3. Interceptions are arbitrary. They come and go for all great defensive backs.
4. He's like Sean Lee. These young defensive backs here need direction like our linebackers get from Lee. (Notice how bad they are when Lee isn't there to line them up.)
5. Earl Thomas is elite. How many 2nd or 3rd rounders end up being elite? Almost none.

Bottom line: This could be a top defense with Earl Thomas. It absolutely won't be without him, and the Eagles will torch the Cowboys.

You had me until number 5.

I'm optimistic about this defense either way. Will they be better with Thomas? Undoubtedly. But I'm not sure they will get "torched" even without him.

We should be happy that they're keeping their powder dry and no longer getting robbed and overpaying in these deals.

Gone are the days of Joey Galloway and Roy Williams deals. Good riddance!

I'm with you. A 3rd rounder that becomes a 2nd if certain conditions are met. Either that, or a 3rd round pick with a player thrown in. Somewhere where we have a surplus where the Seahawks don't. That could include DE, WR, and TE from what I see at this point.

They could, but does Cleveland honestly think they're "one player away"? All of their actions say otherwise. If anything, they've exercised extreme patience and a methodical approach.

Stephen’s coy remarks last week and ET’s comments here, make it seem more likely now. Has SEA commented on extending him? Are there any other teams that have been mentioned? Or is it us vs SEA?

I don't see anything in the tweet of the article that was posted that indicates there is any more chance of Dallas getting him in a trade than there has been. He's just publically saying he either wants a contract extension or a trade. It's unsure if Seattle will even be willing to bend on its position - this late in that game it doesn't seem that likely. But even if they do, who knows if Dallas would offer the best deal? Still seems like a long shot to me.

I'm excited about the potential of this group as much as the next guy but so far the production hasn't been anything to get excited over with the exception of contract year Lawrence. Cheeto and Williams should pan out well but I'd love a guy that can help out against A Rodgers on 3rd and 4th down with game on the line for the next few years.

A proven TE could apparently be a real blessing for us. ET would still be obliged to keep his contract demands minimal, tho. It'd be asking a lot.

ET is on a 1 yr deal. He's only going to negotiate with a team he wants to go to. I doubt Cleveland would be interested in a player and give up a decent pick for one that doesn't want to come or sign an extension.

The whole secondary is having a great camp! And so far the coaches like woods and for some reason believe in heath a little as well.

I've read them from Twitter as well as from cowboys articles here and there. It's their words, not mines. I just read and take in the info!

Still, two things: one, SEA has (probably) already offered him lucrative long term deals, so that’s not the issue. The issue is he wants that and more money. Two, he still ran into our locker room last season and pleaded with our coach to come and get him.

He’s right about a lot of what he says. But he’s not an altruist who’s standing strong because of the lesson he learned from Lofa Tutupu.

McClay was on yesterday and they cant talk about players under contract but when asked a couple of different times about Earl this is what he said


also, these 2 teams have/had an offer on the table, what that actually is/was idk exactly what was discussed
the Seahawks have ET under contract and really hold all the leverage aside from him not being on the field or him being a distraction
if the Cowboys go to Seattle with an offer, they will always pay more than if Seattle calls first. and they know this

if the Cowboys were after Earl, i mean convinced they needed him and overpaying was worth it regardless (they arent)
i would rather they do it today and let the guy go through camp because the swagger Kris brings is nothing compared to the swagger Thomas brings

having said all that, the Cowboys are going to be patient and let it come to them
either Seattle will call or he will be a FA next year (or they extend him)

Actually its out there that the seahawks have not offered him an extension.

I'm thinking conservative conditions favoring the Cowboys. The only reason a 2nd is in conversation is for Seahawks to save face with fans. To be honest, this needs to happen soon, otherwise, his value is dropping after the 2nd preseason game IMO.
