Eli Manning to retire

I am going to miss him. I think we should nominate a new mouth breathing QB to entertain us with dumbface. My favorite look of his was after a pick, it was "can he do that? Is that fair"?

I really will miss him as I've had a lot of fun making fun of him but the truth is he was a better QB than we gave him credit for and a hell of a lot better than we wanted him to be. He pretty much turned that new stadium into his home away from home.

I have always pulled for the East when the Cowboys are out of it. Hell, in 1989, our only win was against the SB champ.

Divisional games are not what they used to be even though the league has tried to regain that with the schedule at the end of the season. I know, I've tried to muster up that venom on game days against division teams and it hasn't worked, it's just another game.

I would like to see a realignment to create more regional rivals like the ATL-NO one. They need DAL and HOU in the same division. TEN wouldn't be bad either or NO but that ATL rivalry is special to them. That's why they scheduled that game to reopen the Dome.

The way this is aligned now, they're missing opportunities to jack with the ratings. It makes no sense to have 4 of the top 6 markets in the same division. Spread that out and get better balance. This is the way it is only because that's the way it's been.

I could get up for a couple of DAL-HOU games a year and they might even put it in Austin or San Antonio every other year.

It was cherry picking one stat. Hell, I can make an argument for or against most players if I did that.

And yes, volume does play into the stats that will help him get into the HOF. That has always been the case with the HOF - it's not just an Eli Manning thing. Plus, post season success, especially with QBs, has always been a big factor in getting into the HOF. That also isn't just an Eli Manning thing. So, why should we say those things suddenly don't matter with Eli Manning?

It's not cherry picking one stat. It's the stat that best represents overall performance. When you add in all the other stats he performs poorly in, he just looks worse.

Post season performance should be a factor, not team success. And while he has some good performances, he has some pretty atrocious performances as well. He has been a huge mixed bag...which is what mediocre players do.

If the Cowboys played HOU and NO every year, you'd learn to dislike them just as much. The only reason DAL doesn't rank 1st with NO is because of their long running feud with anything Atlanta. When they had an all day concert there in the late 70's, they asked Little Feat to sign their contract with an exclusion of their song "Oh Atlanta". The promoting company said they couldn't guarantee their safety if they played it. They played in in subsequent JazzFest shows without incident but it wasn't a fresh hit like it was in the late 70's.

It is cherry picking if you ignore all other stats.

As for postseason performance, it's naïve to think that voters don't give QBs much more credit/blame for team success than any other position. You personally may think it shouldn't matter, but the reality it does, and that isn't unique to Eli. Jim Kelly is in the HOF with no better stats than Eli because of his post season success, and he never even won a Super Bowl. Aikman owes his HOF induction to his team's postseason success as well. Even so, Eli won the Super Bowl MVP award twice.

If you are going on passer rating as a stand alone stat, Dak Prescott, Tony Romo, Kirk Cousins are in! Hooray for them!

As for Eli, while passer rating wasn't his best stat, his career passer rating is still higher than HOFers like Elway, Aikman, Staubach and Moon.

You really can't compare modern day passer ratings to the likes of Aikman, Farve, etc, but you can compare Eli's passer rating to his peers though. And his passer rating is abysmal. If he is such a great QB, then how come he is ranked #45 and Romo is #4. Eli wasn't even the best QB in the NFC East for almost his entire career.

No doubt. Saints and Texans already hate us like a divisional rival. Been there done that. We just dont really care about them.

I like Brees and the Saints but can’t stand Houston cause we get all of their games on CBS instead of better matchups. Too many of their fans around here.

But I’d love to move to South Division.

I found after all of the years I don’t hate the Cardinals anymore. And hated them the least in our division anyway.

No Eli's career (yards, touchdowns, superbowls, playing for 1 franchise, career length) is more on par with someone like Big Ben who will eventually make Canton as well

A 2x super bowl MVP whose top 10 all time in yards and touchdowns at the #1 most valuable position making Canton is hardly a conspiracy (especially since there going to make him wait like they did with Kurt Warner)

It’s noteworthy that some of his (Eli) good performances were in post season play which led to Super Bowl rings.

I know of at least one Super Bowl in which Aikman played poorly.

I would also add that Aikman’s regular season numbers are not off the charts great even factoring in the era.

Usually, justification of Aikman devolves to anecdotal references and unsubstantiated claims that “he was the most accurate passer.....he could of had better numbers had he wanted to!!!”

First, I didn't say he was "such a great" QB, and have specifically said he clearly falls short of the elites of the era like his brother and Brady etc ….

And while I wouldn't call his passer rating "abysmal", I have acknowledged that his QBR is not one of his strong arguments for HOF consideration.

The other thing to remember is QBR is not a stand alone stat for HOF consideration. Playoff success is also weighed heavily, especially with QBS, as are career stats such as yards and TDs. And, like it or not, how a player is perceived as a representative of the NFL also factors in.

You may not agree with all that, but the reality is those things are heavily considered, and have been long before Eli retired.
