Once again, people are being too black and white with this 3-4 vs. 4-3. We're likely to use a mixture of even and odd sets, and its likely to be a work in progress as to how much we use of each until things play out in real time action. It would be a very, very, very foolish move to remove flexibility when the players haven't even put on pads yet and so many things are still yet to be determined.

That is a very astute statement. I think until its proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the 3-4 is the team's meal ticket then Glover and Ellis have a place. Once it has been, then I expect them to be moved. I am sure having Ellis is also comforting with the uncertainity surrounding Canty. People can try to call Ellis a backup all they want, he is still better than Kenyon Coleman.

I fully expect Glover to be gone for sure next offseason if the 3-4 works out.

I would love to get a 3rd for Ellis, but doubt that would happen. Probably a 4th next year, or a 3rd in 2007

somone suggested javon walker. if they could get him, i would hope they would do it.

But I would like to see Ellis stay. He's been a solid player, and every team needs those.

Why Glover made it to the Pro Bowl playing the 3-4 in New Orleans

was Phil Simms a pro bowler......hmmmmm......

I see....anyone who is a pro bowler is above the law and can dictate where to play and how much.

good grief......whats a pro-bowler anyways.....its a joke.

So again, what is the consensus on Greg's "market value".

I would love to hear what most of us think that is.

In trade, not much.

Financially? Grant Wistrom got something like a $16 million SB. Ellis is at least Wistrom's equal.

here we go.......We all complained the Ellis never had any support....now he gets in a shouting match with Parcells and Ellis is a bum who wouldn't start on a good defence......

I'm not a big fan of Ellis....but the years of reading post on how Ellis needs better players around him instead of the likes of Wiley and Ek and there were even posts on that he was better the Kearse.

Now he is a bum because he questioned Big old Bill..........oh my....

His talent has nothing to do with this and frankly is not even relevant. And anyone who assumed he was more than he is has been simply deluding themselves. He has always been solid, since the day he was drafted but has never taken that next step.

He had a starting job here if he was willing to do it. He was not willing to do that. Up until this point, he was considered our starting RDE. He questions his role, gets into a shouting match with our coach and now some want to cater to that. That is detrimental to the plan. Right or wrong, we have a plan and if he does not want to be part of it, he needs to go.

I don't know why that is so hard to understand.

I love Ellis. Always have, always will.

But I have to question the intelligence in going in to a coach's office to complain about your position when YOU'RE STARTING.

If Ellis had been shuffled to the back because Parcells wanted to start Ware/Spears or Glover/Spears at DE, I could totally see his point.

But that hasn't happened. If anything, the depth on D-Line should keep Ellis fresher than he's been practically his whole career.

But *****ing? When he's a starter?

Did I miss something?

You're the one who said he wasn't an All-Pro, and until he was he should shut his piehole. Right?

It is a business. For management and the player.

But if a trade occurs, I am sure popular opinion will paint Coach Parcells as the villain and Ellis as the victim.

It also is not good business for a boss (Parcells) to go about his duties of running a team with players that are not with the program. Particularly if they are veterans that young players would look up to.

You maybe be right but exactly what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

It would be stupid for Ellis to just shut the hell up. It would be stupid for Parcells to just miss lead Ellis on this. It would be stupid for the club to not try and work out a deal where all parties get good value.

Mostly, it would be stupid four us, as fans, to blindly believe that all of this is for the best, regardless. Players are not going to sit back and be content to have there roles deminished, especially when there still physically capable of performing at a high level. This is just not realistic and it's foolish for us to expect that. If players see the writting on the wall, there going to try to make moves to facilitate there futures. That's not a bad thing. It's human nature. Any one of us would do the same in like circumstnaces.

If the decision is 34, so be it but I tell you know, with can play either. If we go 34, it will be at the expense of players like Ellis and Glover. I'm fine with that but it had better work. If it does not, there will be hell to pay for it. That's not me, that's reality.

ONE: is this true or crap. TWO: if it is true has it been blown out of proportion or exagerated. THREE: Ellis has never done ANYTHING like this before anywhere- so one has to question THAT. FOUR: if it is true and not been exagerated, will it be a real problem- this was done in BP's office not on the practice field- and BP really does not have a problem with players that stand up to him-so one must consider that.
I think if it did happen as described we will see in the next few days or weeks- especially in the first few days of camp- if there is going to be any fall out.
Sad fact is that we are unlikely to get even a 3rd for Ellis- who is a great guy and gives his all and gets 7-9 sacks a season- but is NOT a Pro Bowl player. When you consider that other players have not been able to be traded for top picks....
Maybe a body for a body. We got all we could for Bryant; Ellis has that rather large contract.

So why isn't he giving his all right now?

Why isn't Bill?......Bill is putting square pegs in round holes...with players like Glover and Ellis.

If Bill gave his all....he would of trade both of them.

Yes. If Glover shows his backside, absolutely.

No player should consider their interests above the team. Pro Bowlers or not.

That has been part of our problem for years. We have not had a strong team. We have had a collection of individuals doing their own thing. The lunatics have been running the asylum.

Slowly but surely those who do not want to conform are gone. I find that comforting. Sadly it disturbs most fans.

Your assuming that Ellis and Glover can't do the job. Glover has played the 3-4 and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl at the position so I know Glover can do the job in the 34. Ellis has not played it so right now none of us know how he will fair in the system. As normal it appears people are putting the cart before the horse, lets see how this pans out.

i can't blame ellis, nor glover for that matter on questioning their future roles for this team. they've been leaders and starters for most of their career and within one season, their roles are suddenly cut down supposedly by 30 percent. hope things work out between them - hate to lose either of our d-linemen.

i wouldn't be surprised if some calls are being made right now looking for a trade. then again, maybe this was a leak to see if any other team would bite.

Agreed. If BP thinks he can get value for Ellis and/or Glover they will be traded. But this year they will stay team players and play team first not me first like T.O.

Those two are professionals, Ellis simply let an ego get to him in frustration. Or maybe he is eager to stay on the field for his reputation as a leader, same with Glover. TC will tell the fate of these two high-quality team leaders.

Sounds like a good fit for the 3-4.

If your the Cowboys, sure it does. If your a 6-6, 275 43 DE, in his 7th year, who has averaged 7.5, 8 and 9 sacks over the last 3 seasons, not so much.

This is not hard to understand, but it is inappropriate to try and associate this with the fans. This is not a discussion or point that the fan can address. Greg Ellis himself has no direct control over this. This is all about Bill and Jerry. The discussion as to what happens with Ellis should be had with them. They need to make the moves. They need to make the trades. They are responsible for the direction we take and the personel we use.

I was referring back to the poster's comments about some thinking he had Kearse-type talent. That is not relevant to this.

His role and the plan are relevant. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
