So what round pick would we get for him in next year's draft?
A zero round. He was not an Unrestricted Free Agent. he was released.

We got back nearly 5 million in cap space. It was worth it to me for that alone.

give it to D-ware just so we can stop seeing articles about them "getting close" to an extension with him

Greg is happiest when his team is terrible, Oakland is the perfect fit.

Their D has the potential to be pretty good, FWIW....which is not much.

Sometimes I think about what's worse:

A) Spending your whole career with one team that hasn't won a playoff game in 12 or 13 years.

B) or Being a Raider

B, and that's my final answer.

I agree they selected Bey before he should have been drafted but it does not change the fact he is considered a very talented player with high potential and great speed. There is a difference between questioning where a player should have been drafted and the quality of the player once he is on the team.

I just wish Al Davis had the common sense to trade down in a situation like that.

Brother, if Al Davis ever had common sense, it escaped him long ago.

My best friend, and I'm guessing the majority of Raiders fans, would never wish death on anyone....but they're secretly not going to be upset when Mr. Davis "leaves the building".

I wonder if it is possible that he really wanted to take another offer but did what would ultimately be best for his family?.

The guy is already rich whether he wants to admit it or not. This isn't exactly about "putting food on the table..."

So is it confirmed that the Boys wouldn't be on the hook for the $1.5 million then? Would this be considered additional cap space on top of the 4.5 million saved?

And I am also glad he isn't anywhere near the NFC East. I always knew he would go for the moola over the glory. But who knows, maybe there was only one team interested.

I will say, this definitely might be followed by a trade with Burgess since he wants a trade anyways.

Not too awful surprising...

I can't remember which young Cowboy it was, that went to Ellis' house for dinner. He said that Ellis spent a LOT of money on things and was very surprised at how extravagant a lifestyle he lived...

I remember another time another Cowboy talking about how Ellis liked to spend money, so he obviously was about the money...

Don't ever remember hearing this.

Ellis = $$$$.

He always *****ed and moaned about his contract and job security. Now we know why! He may have helped the youngs out and thats great but his attitude and contant *****ing had to be a drag on the team in the lockeroom. He was a guy who was supposed to be a veteran leader and he was always portraying a negative, down in the dumps, whoa is me attitude. I'm soo glad he is gone!!!!!!!!!

YOU=$$$$$ at your job and there's nothing wrong with that. If your fired from your job at 55 years old and you are only going to work until 60 you'd be in it for the money to on your next job. People around here act like it's a bad thing that he signed for financial reasons.

Joe fan will never understand. We were all blessed with a talent, atheletes were blessed with a talent that allows them to make a considerable amount of money and I don't begrudge them for holdout or contact disputes. If they don't take care of themselves and their family who else will.

Good luck Greg

I have no doubts you right as usual. However, you couldn't hand me a check big enough to walk into that soap opera until Davis is out of the picture. I respect Al Davis like I do very few "football guys" but he has lost his freaking mind.

Yes they could, if Al called you right now and said "come to Oakland Hostile I want you to be my kicker and I'll pay you 2.5 million". Everyone hear would be asking "where did Hos go he hasn't posted since Oakland signed that street free agent kicker".

If you have a family yes it's about the money.

yeah but you're acting like he's a regular person with your "taking care of himself and his family" line. the guy has made millions and in this line of work it isn't all about money cause if you're a solid player you're gonna get paid no matter what. I don't wanna hear that taking care of his family crap cause when I went to Dallas he was wearing an expensive Rocawear suede sweatsuit in 90+ degree weather and he drove up in a white Rolls Royce Phantom.

All that competition and he still hasn't signed! I wonder why? I highly doubt anyone would pay him any more than the vet min plus incentives.

Let me guess. The source is his agent.

He'll get paid something commensurate with a vet that has averaged a sack every other game for years - much more than the minimum $.

Exactly. Somehow I doubt he'd hit the financial skids if he accepted 500k less to play for a winner.

Sounds like he's doing a better job "taking care of his ego".

Everything you posted is true but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing that a whiney, complaining, negative attitude player who really only wanted one more big payday is gone from the team. I feel its a good thing that he's gone and I'm happy about it. Let him go to that debacle in Oakland and make a few more million. You know what, I bet if he would have never become the whiney, complaining Greg Ellis and just played out his career in Dallas, he could have made far more money off of being Greg Ellis in Dallas after he retired. He would have been loved by everyone as a lifetime Cowboy who was a good player and loyal to the team. He could have opened a restaraunt and any number of businesses and Cowboys fans would flock to them. He would have autograph signings to make money until the day he died. I wouldn't pay more than 50 cents and wait more than 10 seconds for a Greg Ellis autograph now, not to mention I wouldn't waste the gas to drive anywhere for his autograph. He was one of my favorite players until a few years ago, but when you turn your back on the team, or quit like Roy Williams did, then you're dead to me!

So what? You'll work at your job, after the age of 35, for 27 more years. This maybe his last year at his job. Be happy with your 1988 hyundai and your P Miller sweatsuit.

A guy at my job was saying the same thing "those atheletes make to much money to play a kids game. They're greedy". Then I pointed out to him that we make over 100k per year and some people making 30k would think the same about us, would you do your job for 30k and he said no. Then why shouldn't the atheletes get market value for their talents, you do.
