That is the last place I would go if I were any Free Agent.

On the plus side one can live over the bridge in some pretty nice areas.

Everything else is the downside of course, lol.

I see where you're going with this. I obviously dont have all of that information, but I feel confident enough making that statement based on the history of both parties involved. The Raiders make overpaying aging or overhyped players routine. There is no reason to think they didn't do so here, either.

....and as far as winning? Do I really have to explain? From earlier reports, there were several teams that were interested that would've provided him a much better chance of being on a winning team.

I don't know what other offers were out there and how much money or terms of any other contract. Did he do it for money? I have no doubt money played a part it normally does for the vast majority of players. What type of playing time will he get with the Raiders as opposed to another team again I don't know what was discussed and again better chance of winning well who were those teams I keep hearing reports of other team but no names of those teams.

Yes, the Raiders stink but seriously Ellis is playing in arguably the WORST division in football! The AFC West is out in front of the NFC West by a hair as the worst division in the League.

7-8 heading into the final game of the season and someone in that division will be thinking division title and playoffs in the last game. Especially since the AFC West plays the NFC East this season.

He never provided much of that here, so I wouldn't count on it...

Well it is safe to say I think that the Boys will not be on the hook for any of that $1.5 million we would have had to have paid.

So who were the other teams in the running and what were they offering contract wise?

Does it matter who they were?

They weren't the Raiders, lol.

Raiders did not have the worst record in the NFL either it could be a lot worse like the Lions. At least with Oakland "due to poor season" have compiled some highly touted young players in the draft over the last couple of years and I would not be shocked that the Raiders re-emerge as good team within the next 2 to 3 years.

As for Ellis it could have been all about the money I don't know, it could have been also about having the oppertunity to play more snaps again I don't know.

Greg is happiest when his team is terrible, Oakland is the perfect fit.

I am sure the fact that Davis' gnarled up hand was signing the biggest check had a lot to do with it.
I have no doubts you right as usual. However, you couldn't hand me a check big enough to walk into that soap opera until Davis is out of the picture. I respect Al Davis like I do very few "football guys" but he has lost his freaking mind.

I wonder if it is possible that he really wanted to take another offer but did what would ultimately be best for his family?

Nah, couldn't be that.

Or could it?

Hmmmmmm...........

SD lost some really close games last year, as did a lot of teams, I know, and a freak game with Denver. I would expect them to run away with this division this year.

Ellis is getting old and his yrs in the league are numbered. I don't blame him for chasing the almighty dollar. This is LIFE and we all have to secure our future. Good for him...

They should. I agree wholeheartedly but who knows if L.T. will regain his form or if he is breaking down as 30yr old backs tend to do. Who knows if Merriman is healthy? Who knows if Norv will have them underachieve again this season?

Yeah like a last 1st rounder with the 7th pick and a projected UFA with our 2nd round pick etc etc etc...

I agree they selected Bey before he should have been drafted but it does not change the fact he is considered a very talented player with high potential and great speed. There is a difference between questioning where a player should have been drafted and the quality of the player once he is on the team.
