That label gets thrown around a lot and seems like any time a team wins the SB they are the new America's team. All I can say is when anyone says America's team those fans know who you are talking about and it is not the Steelers or Pats or whomever.

I think he was saying...You need wins with titles, not just wins.

And that is why I stated that the Steelers can have the title of "America's Team", all I care about are wins.

Too many Cowboys fans chant "We are America's Team" after other Franchises win Super Bowls as a consolation prize.

Morning Dooms... it doesnt even take winning a SB....

A team goes on a frakken 2 game winning streak in the NFL and they are tagged America's Team by some double moon clown

Out of all the people on the planet it never ceases to amaze me that Cowboys fans do not understand the concept of "America's Team." First of all, that is just a nickname.

Second of all, it is not transferable. You don't take any other nickname away from any other franchise and bestow it on someone else. It is like that stupid series ESPN did on the real Titletown, USA. I hate to tell anyone who put one minute's worth of time in that show, that Green Bay, Wisconsin is still Titletown, USA.

I've said this before, and I am saying it again...

No one hates the doormats because they don't matter. They don't sell. There's no sex appeal.

Folks, the Dallas Cowboys are sexy, and sex sells. Everything about the Cowboys sells. We're right smack dab in the middle of the country and the football world revolves around us. Don't believe it? Look at the TV ratings and do the math. We sell. The Dallas Cowboys being good is good for the NFL. Bet on it.

Why do other nations hate America? Because we're the biggest, baddest cats on the planet. There's more money here. There's more excitement. There's more opportunity. None of that is bad, so why do they hate us? Because looking up hurts their necks, and they're cranky as hell.

If America is the cream of the crop, then America's Team is too. That's what that nickname was meant to portray. The best. People hate the best. Let 'em.

Haven't you ever noticed how that nickname infuriates some people? It's just a freaking nickname for crying out loud. No one decries the "Purple People Eaters." How can cannibalism not be offensive? Because there's no prestige in it. No one is trying to get that nickname. America's team? Everyone wants it. Too damn bad, that's ours. Keep your grubby hands off or you'll pull back a bloody stump.

Opposing team's fans will tell you that the nickname is offensive, but look how many of them want it for themselves. This year we were encouraged to loan the nickname to New Orleans because of their rebuilding from Katrina. The team in our Nation's capital wants the nickname. The Steelers have laid claim to it. So have the Packers. So have the Jets and Giants after 9/11. So have the Patriots. It's a redundant theme. Not even baseball teams like the Braves or Yankees have been able to pry that moniker away from the Cowboys. Nor the Lakers or Celtics in basketball.

You want to know why none of them ever get to use that nickname? They can't earn it. Love us or hate us, the Cowboys earned the nickname America's Team. How can I say this? Simple, have we ever lost it? Even when we were doormats the name was used. The media still loves to use it. Even while they stir the haterade.

And that's the bottom line.

I am as big a Cowboy fan as any of you, and have been for 35 years. That said, the Steelers are truly Americas Team. No drama, no reality shows, no huge egos to stroke, no hard knocks, no overpriced free agents, no public lockeroom spats, no control freak owner, no cupcake coach. Just a bunch of blue collar TEAMATES that work their tails off to reach a common goal. Hats off to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Oh "intercourse" the Steelers. So if theyre americas team will half the country or more begin loathing them for decades to come, relentessly over cover every blemish, keep their players from the hall of fame, etc , etc , etc?

Uh no they didn't nail it. If you have to make a case/argument for being 'America's Team' then you aren't. The thing that makes it so great about the Cowboys being America's Team is they didn't have to fight for it. They were anointed the name by NFL Films and it just took off from there. I doubt it will be that way for the Steelers. They had a chance to be America's Team in the 70's and that didn't work. Just because you have more titles doesn't make you America's Team. As soon as the Cowboys start winning Super Bowls again then you will see who America's Team still is.

I agree it is a title or label that is thrown around quite often but in the end when you say America's team people know you are talking the Dallas Cowboys. Funny part is Landry never liked that title but Tex loved it.

"America's Team" is a NICKNAME! It's not a title that's won & lost. Nor is it debateable or transferable. Why isn't this more widely recognized? ESPN & other media outlets like to throw nicknames like ours & "Titletown", for instance, out for public debate when the reality is they'll only ever stick w/ the original team...no matter how many wins or titles some wannabe collects!

edit: dang it, Hos, you beat me to the punch! You know what they say, great minds...

Wouldn't that make them the antithesis of America's Team? I mean America in 2009 is fat, lazy, uninformed, reality show loving, gimme a hand out not a hand up, weak, and the cry baby mentality prevails.

Yeah, right now they do.

Doesn't mean it is always going to be that way.

Sadly, it appears it "will" be this way for quite some time.

You're right. Right now they do, but the Steelers have had some down time in their history too, so this model organization crap is overblown. Were they a model organization then? I didn't hear anything about it at that thime. It's a what have you done for me lately world. I get that. It will be interesting to see how this board will react if the Cowboys turn things around next year. Some of you will have some serious crow to eat.

Steelers were competitive under Bill Cowher.

They only turned the corner with Big Ben leading, but they were always a tough team to face.

The Steelers have had many years when they were average or worse throughout their history. They don't win every year. Nobody does. Give them credit for being on top right now, but the model organization crap goes out the window the moment they falter. That's how fickle people are.

They got a huge break when Brady went down, and who cares about the "America's Team" tag?.

I chuckle every time someone wants to peg another franchise as "America's Team."

Good luck with that. There is one team that gets America's attention in good times and bad, one team that is the most popular, most hated, most watched and best-selling team in the country, and it's not whatever team is the flavor of the month.

The Cowboys are America's Team, no matter how envious anyone is or how badly they want it to be otherwise.

You sir..."Nailed It".

OK Adam -- Its on. No on ever takes you on for whatever reason but here we go. Delusional ? I am telling the truth about the Dallas organization. It is dysfunctional. I define Americas Team with a little more pride than alot of you.. Steeler fan? Did you even bother to read my post? I love the Cowboys and that is clear. Cowboy hater? You may be good with numbers but you are a little short on common sense. All in all, this site has deteriorated to a place where differing opinions are not tolerated. Too bad.

You can define "America's Team" however you want. It doesn't change the fact that the reasons the Cowboys originally were called America's Team have nothing to do with being a well-run organization or not being dysfunctional.

The Cowboys are the most popular, most hated, most watched, best-selling team in America. That's why they're called America's Team.

While all of that may be true, that is not why they are called America's Team.

That name came from NFL films, when they saw many Dallas fans at every Dallas road game one season.

I would gladly trade that stupid nickname for a chance to be called the best team in football, ... the Super Bowl Champs.

After all, that is what this whole party is about, isn't it? Winning Super Bowls ??

Right now, nobody is envious of Dallas, we are the laughing stock.

No playoff wins in over a decade
Hard Knocks
Reality shows
Lockerroom snitches
Fueds in the lockerroom
Dec. collapse after Dec. collapse
Dough Boy retread coaches (only the Parcells hire holds any weight at all since Jimmy left)
Owens soap Opera
PacMan
Won the NFC East once since 1998

We are always in the news, but for all of the wrong reasons.

It rips my heart out to realize all of this, but it is all true.

When you start to look at the whole body of work since Jones took over, the Johnson years were the anomaly.

Hence Adam's point.

If there is Dallas news, it is the NFL's biggest news. The straw that stirs the drink.

While I agree with Adam and Hos, there IS a danger to an extended period of subpar performance. Let's face it, for over a decade, the Cowboys have been just another team. Nothing special. In fact, you could make a case for our beloved team to be subpar. I am afraid extended periods of mediocrity and shenanigans is starting to take the glint off the shine of our franchise and it's reputation. New generations of fans aren't basking in the glory of success and excellence. They just share in frustration and enjoying the playoffs with our Cowboys players - on the couch.

Remember, the Raiders used to be one of the better franchises, until their extended decline under a crazy owner made them something of a joke. Dear Lord, let us be spared...
