Wouldn't that make them the antithesis of America's Team? I mean America in 2009 is fat, lazy, uninformed, reality show loving, gimme a hand out not a hand up, weak, and the cry baby mentality prevails.
Point well taken.

While all of that may be true, that is not why they are called America's Team.

That name came from NFL films, when they saw many Dallas fans at every Dallas road game one season.

I would gladly trade that stupid nickname for a chance to be called the best team in football, ... the Super Bowl Champs.

After all, that is what this whole party is about, isn't it? Winning Super Bowls ??

Right now, nobody is envious of Dallas, we are the laughing stock.

No playoff wins in over a decade
Hard Knocks
Reality shows
Lockerroom snitches
Fueds in the lockerroom
Dec. collapse after Dec. collapse
Dough Boy retread coaches (only the Parcells hire holds any weight at all since Jimmy left)
Owens soap Opera
PacMan
Won the NFC East once since 1998

We are always in the news, but for all of the wrong reasons.

It rips my heart out to realize all of this, but it is all true.

When you start to look at the whole body of work since Jones took over, the Johnson years were the anomaly.
Hey WV--- better watch out. You are not allowed to speak your mind or give an opinion here with having to turn in your fan card or blow it out your ***. It hurts me to see this franchise in this condition.

Great, and you're satisfied with that?

Straw that stirs the drink, big deal.

I'd like to go back to winning playoff games, heck maybe a Super Bowl even.

I would give up all of this Dallas, America's Team, soap opera crap to go back to being a dominant force on the football field in the NFL.

It is a distant distant memory when we could claim that.

Ah, but what a sweet memory it is.
ATTABOY !!!!!!!!!!

we won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years...just in case you didn't get that memo or were on another bandwagon at the time.
I have forgotten more about th Cowboys than you'll ever know. From 92-95 we drafted well, had great coaching that wasnt afraid of the owner, no hard knocks- I could go on and on. Guys like you amaze me. I bring a coherent, well thought out opinion and you guys bring "turn in your fan card' or "bandwagon". 13 years with NO PLAYOFF WINS !!! What part of that do you not get?

way to insult people you have absolutely no clue about. if you seriously think your opinion is well thought out, you're just as ignorant as most of the ESPN staff. we are still obviously America's team because EVERYONE in the USA wants to know about the Cowboys. I fail to see the relevance of what playoff wins have to do with a media label.

with that said, the Steelers are not America's team. in fact, they're just this year's Super Bowl champions.

*just another extra point. you state in '92-'95 we drafted well, had great coaching that wasnt afraid of the owner, no hard knocks- I could go on and on. so, why didn't we win a championship in '94?

I really don't care about losing the America's team label. I care about the boy's making a run next year. I have mega respect for the Steelers. IMO they are a very well-run franchise from the ownership, down to their scouting and coaches. A model franchise. That said, screw the steelers and lets go Cowboys.

Hey Rush - - "just as ignorant as most of the ESPN staff"? There you go again doing the popular thing -- bashing the media. have you ever stopped to think that there just might be some intelligent opinions spewed forth from a media outlet? Guess not. As far as why didnt we win in 1994? Here it is Einstein -- the 49ers were the better team that day.

Well, I think everyone in this forum agrees that Jerry is the constant with the way this franchise has gone downhill over the last 15 years.

Until Jerry steps aside and gets a real GM and a real coach, this franchise will go nowhere.

Our 3 best coaches were all run out town by Jerry. Our worst have been lameduck softies that Jerry controls. Hopefully Jerry will finally get the hint when this team underachieves again next season.:(

The "America's Team" label still fits the Dallas Cowboys based on winning games and here's the proof...

Even though the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game in 13 years, they STILL hold the record for playoff victories with 32. Steelers now have 31, but have been in the NFL for like 27 more years. Basically, that's a 40 year window and they still couldn't tie or pass our record...nor anyone else for that matter.

Also, the Cowboys, Dolphins and Bears are constantly going back and forth on best winning percentage every year. Dolphins are ahead right now at (.583), Bears at (.579) and Cowboys at (.578) not counting the tied games. The Bears have 42 tied games in their history, the Cowboys have 6 and the Dolphins have 4. The Cowboys held the record briefly last year, but ended the season at 9-7 along with the Bears, while the Dolphind finished 11-6 respectively.

Based on SB appearances and victories, playoff victories, winning percentage and our record of 20 consecutive winning seasons from 66'-84', I think the Cowboys can still proudly hold the label of "America's Team" and will only add to that legacy in the coming years with a vengeance IMO. Fans had to wait 15 years from 78'-93' before watching our team win their 3rd SB. Like in the past, the football Gods are pleased with the Steelers, but their favorite team will always be the Dallas Cowboys.

That's hilarious. Somehow, in your rose colored mind, the Super Bowl champions SUCK.

Unreal.

I am as big a Cowboy fan as any of you, and have been for 35 years. That said, the Steelers are truly Americas Team. No drama, no reality shows, no huge egos to stroke, no hard knocks, no overpriced free agents, no public lockeroom spats, no control freak owner, no cupcake coach. Just a bunch of blue collar TEAMATES that work their tails off to reach a common goal. Hats off to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Man, half of your posts in this thread are similar to this. Do you have a persecution complex?

This isn't 1984. Nobody is looking for you to "conform." There just happens to be a whole 'nother side to your debate here.
