There are examples right in the middle of drafts where a QB wouldn't agree to sign with the team who drafted him...seeing anything here yet?

It happens, but 99 times out of 100 it's a bluff. You see it in the NBA all the time. A guy says "Please don't let Minnesota draft me" but he plays anyway. He might leave the first chance he gets, but his desire and love for the NBA doesn't prevent him from playing at all. McClain seems perfectly content with not playing at all. Most guys who really want to go to a certain team put a lot of effort into getting a team to sign them. McClain was just sitting on the couch until his phone started vibrating and said "Cool, the Cowboys are calling. Let me pause The Wire."

Jerry get this one right so far (2 games in) But its not like this was a shrewed genius GM move…this was a desperate stab in the dark GM move. He "might have" got this one right…but its not like his % is great on these things…he is still Jerry the Joke of a GM.

Have to agree. That was a desperate move that might work. Two games in so far so good but turning over rocks to find any one isn't GM brilliance.

I swear, every Sunday is a referendum on a season.

He's played 1/8 of the schedule. He's played well. I would hesitate toward claiming a victory for Jerry Jones on this signing based on two games.

I remember people wanting to put Julius Jones on a pedestal after a good eight game stretch in 2004. Then, the truth about the player was revealed. Let's let this one play out before any credit is doled out.

Im sorry but that is complete BS. I'm sure there are a dozen other teams that wanted McClain. But for whatever bizarre reason he genuinely wanted to play for us and maybe a couple of other teams. He fell into Jerry's lap and I'm not going to give him credit for not being a complete idiot, especially considering how depleted our lb corps was at the time.

I give Jerry and Cowboys organization major credit for getting McClain, I also think Saban played a part in talking with McClain due to his relationship with Garrett

Only thing that concerns me is the quote at the end from McClain that says, "There weren't many teams I would have got off the couch for." Makes you still question his love for the game a little. Guys who love football would play for anyone. I understand wanting to go to an ideal situation (which Dallas is far from), but I can't understand not wanting to play at all if not for a few teams. That tells me he would have been perfectly happy staying home this season.

He chose to retire when he did because he knew his heads wasn't on straight. He saw what happened to Aaron Hernadez and it spooked him, got scared that could be him if he didn't straighten his life out. I find it admirable and hopefully he's in a good place where he can now achieve his potential. Here's a link to an article, written before Dallas acquired him that tells his story so it may put him in a better perspective here in the zone.

I'm pretty sure that the Garrett Saban connection had a lot to do with Ro coming to Dallas.

So why does Jerry get credit? Not saying he doesn't but how do you know when to give Garrett the credit or Will McClay the credit? Or a scout the credit?

Heck, I didn't know drinking blue was part of a job description...I'll have to dust off my resume.

Buddy, I'd take you over jerri as GM any day of the week, with or without Johnnie Walker

While the move looks good...little too early to be crowning him as a great pickup and a person that will stay out of trouble.

It's been 2 games...

I like his play, tho.

True but it took no games for people to rip him and this defense. I agree that crowing him as some pro bowl player is soon but seeing people trashing him and the defense in general without really seeing them play is a bit much as well.

this is how bad we are, someone has one good play against a bad team on a good day and BAM, best decision EVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Come on, isnt there some bright spot to your day. He got an interception, he didnt have a sparkling day, he didnt take over the game, he didnt rally the defense. He had a good game. Lords have mercy, it happens.

He has played well in both games....not just one play

Even if this GM does anything good, don't tell him, his ego is the size of Texas already.

imo, we don't really have a gm, we have a think tank obfuscated by jerri to the point where we never know for sure who is responsible for decisions, all i think jerry does is ratify or veto a consensus brought to him and occasionally pulls a wildcat move like signing Deon "cuz he wants to". Were Roy Williams and T Owens one of his wildcat moves? Who can say of sure but it had that jerri stank on it imo. So no, I don't think jerri thought this up and only gets credit for ratifying a move suggested by someone else

I think most moves are via many people, then again I think all NFL GM rely on others as well and have the so called veto power or stamp it. I'm not saying if I owned a team I would hire Jerry as my GM what I am saying is no GM is out there doing it by themselves that is why the makeup of all NFL organization of big, they all hire people to scout players to give their professional advice and it is up to the GM to go with it or not.

I agree but I think those GMs do a lot of scouting and personal research themselves and almost certainly came up the ranks doing so. I don't believe jerri does much if any, certainly not enough to be remotely competitively competent among his peers with whom he is competing against.
