The 36-year-old quarterback said he agreed with Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones' assessment that he has four or five more years left, before jokingly interjecting "seven or eight years" because of modern medicine.

"I'm not in my mid-20s anymore, but I do think based on what my situation has been like the last three or four years, I do think this [offseason] is drastically different," Romo said after Wednesday's organized team activity.

of course tony is going to agree with jones. what else is he going to say that the old man is senile and does not have clue to what he is talking about. also romo kind of paused for a second when he said that he thinks he can play that long. romo has two years left of solid football barring injury then after that he either quits or becomes a very expensive backup.

It's unlikely but not out of the question.

I say 2-3 good ones remaining...more likely 2.
His most recent full season was awfully good though. And with the line they now have and a stud RB....3 could happen.
4-5? seems optimistic.

He could still be an above average starter 4 years from now. That's good enough to win with at least.

I just don't see it happening unless we change the offensive scheme. His will to make a play and longer developing routes puts a serious damper on the longevity of a QB with previous injury issues.

He knows his body and in the article it mentions his back is less of an issue. That's good news. I think it's risky for any player, regardless of position, to say that he will play 4-5 more years. On any given Sunday something can happen.

But overall the article put me in a good mood hearing that he feels good and his back is not as much of an issue as time goes by. Frankly, I'm more worried about his back ending his career than his collarbone. Lol, never heard of a player retiring because of a bad collarbone.

after 35 your physical ability of playing sports declines.......rapidly.

it's not your fault...it's just nature's part in saying..yo...it may be time to do something else.

you and your body are no longer what they used to be...it's ok though.it's just reality..

I think we feel that way because that's the way it's always been. But with treatment advances, medical advancements, and equipment advances that way of thinking my be out dated. These guys are not the average joe. They have access to the best of everything and cutting edge technology. 40 is the new 30. I think we will see over the next several years players that do play longer than the ones we or I anyway grew up watching. And that dont take into account the fact that the qb position specifically is very protected today compared to even 15 years ago. I am one that thinks Romon can play at a high level for the next 3 years. So 4 would not shock me.

It's good to know that Tony doesn't think he's on his last leg on the verge of retirement

Maybe Tony and Jerry both need to enter a 12 step program. The first step is realizing the problem!!!!! Hope Tony sobers up before he gets caught on a drug test.

Every once in awhile someone on this forum will say something that I've always felt was beyond absurd--that Romo didn't want competition or even maybe that he wouldn't help the younger guys. No grounds ...ever..for comments like that.

This sums it up..imo

-----------
The Cowboys were not shy in their attempt to trade back into the first round to take Paxton Lynch during the draft. They eventually drafted Dak Prescott in the fourth round.

Romo said he understood the team's position.

"It's all about the team," Romo said. "You learn a long time ago if you're not good enough to hold on to a position, then you probably weren't as good as you thought you were.

"I think all of the jobs of people who are playing or starting is to help the guys around them, especially at their position. ... We preach that to everybody, and I'm no different. You're definitely going to help a young quarterback. I can remember when I was young, how the influence of older guys can help you. We may need these guys at different times. You never know. For me, it's just an easy thing because you appreciate how hard everyone in here works and you want to see people succeed"

They're doing a decent job with Brees now that he's lost his downfield game. If Romo's back remains healthy, I could see him pulling off something similar.

4 or 5 years or games? Romo needs to lose weight, lessen the INTS, increase the TDs and stay out the media...I'd love it if someone had the list Parcells left for him. I just know the man is running out of time in the league..he needs to do something differently in my opinion to get us over the hump...If not him, then can someone win the lottery, go to Vegas..double down and then invest in a penny stock and have that stock turn into the next Apple, Microsoft or Facebook and then go buy the team from Jerry?

It's late and I haven't had a good drink yet...but I may need to catch up.

I don't disagree with you that these guys can play longer than ever before, however, at the end of the day when a young buck 23-24 year old OLB/DE slams your 36-37 QB to the ground, bad things happen.

If Tony Romo was a 3 steps and gone type of QB I'd be totally buying that he can play 4-5 years more. Unfortunately Tony Romo tends to hold on the ball, loves to run around the pocket, and inevitable because of that take big hits. I don't see Tony Romo changing... and that's why I wonder if he can even make it through this year.
