Yeah, put me in the undecided category for now. Tell me who the D Cordinator is and I would have a better idea.

I will not cry one bit though if Garrett is named HC.

What about the LineBacker coach from the Chargers for the DC(at least they know how to blitz out of the 3-4)

Micheal Vick is great and he's not even a back up! Oh my gosh I think i'm onto something. Vick should be our next coach for the same reasoning you have, except that Vick is even better than Garrett was!

You obviously never saw Garrett perform and enjoyed his time spent as a player on this team. There's a reason why Miami has been keeping a choke hold on anyone that has tried to get at him. Don't let me stop you from your upheaval though.

Don't even mention Ronnie Mex and Garrett in the same sentence please. I really appreciate it.

Yet Miami who had their own HC position open this offseason never even remotely considered offering it to him.

Go figure.

I just threw up my breakfast. JASON GARRETT?

What a disaster this will be. OC, yes. HC, NO WAY IN HELL. Why doesn't Jerry just name himself HC and be f'in done with it. God.

There's no way this can happen.

Has anyone EVER been hired as a HC with such little coaching experience? It's the NFL, the pinnacle of coaching - if you could just be Lawrence Frank and dive in then every Tom, Dick, and Nancy that were cerebral on the high school field would coach.

This wouldbe unprecedented, and I'm not that fuzzy about it.

See Raiders hires.

It would be an interesting hire, one I didn't expect at all. Not sure where I stand on it yet.

And I'm sure that's what it's all about. Jerruh missed out on Payton and now he's trying to find (reach) for another one. The difference is Payton was an OC for several years with two different teams.

Garrett has only coached a couple of years and then just as a QB coach.

Typical Jerruh, always reaching. I can hardly wait til the draft. I wonder how many would be undrafted free agents we end up selecting?

Did he reach for Parcells?

Did he reach for Johnson?

Even though Campo was a failure, he wasn't a reach.

Neither was Gailey.

All of them had a great deal of experience, and were qualified to step up to the next level.

I'd say this is the first time he would be reaching (experience-wise) if he wants Garrett as HC.

We don't know that yet ... but you seem to have it all figured out.

People in the know who have worked with him in the leauge think he will do fine, posters here who do not know and ask about him and question the decision.

Up here in CT I know a lot of Giants fans that wanted him as an OC also.

Nobody knocked on Switzer door after he was run out of OU before or after Jerry came calling. No one has ever offered Gailey an NFL HC job besides Jerruh. Campo was an assistant in Dallas since '89. He was on the staff for three SB's. Yet nobody besides Jerruh ever offered him a HC position.

Yeah, Jerry never reaches. Oh...and I'm sure you still remember Quincy? How about Goodrich? Does Tony Dixon ring a bell? Carver? Two first round picks for Galloway?

You want more examples, just ask, I'll be here all day.

First of all, you didn't address Parcells or Johnson.

And hindsight is the foundation of your argument.

At the time they were hired, all of these coaching candidates were not a reach.

OK, since you'll be here all day, I'll ask you again.

You have been dumping on Jones for over 24 hours. In that time, I have asked you several times which other current owner you would rather have had at the helm of the Dallas Cowboys over the past 2 decades. You have not responded.

If you can credibly name 10 - 15 other owners who have presided over as much success as Jones, then I will concede the point that he is a football idiot, and that you are more qualified to assess coaching talent than he is.

and you'll get examples of success back and you'll counter with some failures and you'll get some success stories back, you'll dismiss 'em...

what's the ultimate answer?

speculation is fun but it's still just specuation.

And I don't have any problem with speculation. That's one thing these boards are for.

Forgive me saying "always". He does have a major tendency to reach. Johnson and BP are the only times he didn't as far as HC's are concerned and I was 100% in favor of each.

I don't recall you asking what owner I'd rather have. But the real question isn't which owner I'd rather have, but which GM I'd rather have.

Jerry as an owner is fine, it's when he's been a hands on GM that we've suffered.

So you can spare me the "he's won three SB's" talk, because that was when he was an "owner" and Jimmy was the acting GM. Once JJ took over those duties on a daily basis we failed miserably.

So I'd take any owner who opens his wallet and lets the football decisions be made my an experienced GM.
