ESPN's MVP Poll is an absolute joke

Or the Cowboys offense has been vastly superior in holding the ball and converting 3rd downs.

No surprise. Our QB has been better than theirs.
For someone who likes simple numbers, now you're twisting yourself in knots. "Their defense has given up more points, so our QB is better" is just not a tenable argument without a huge number of tenuous assumptions.

Plus, there's a little something called our running game, with its 0.5 ypa advantage over the Raiders'. That's why our third downs are on average a yard and a half shorter than theirs. When they have a long way to go on 3rd down (7+ yards), Carr has actually been quite a bit better than Prescott.

You did provide context. The context shows that everyone is bunched in a tight range in the passer rating stat, which suggests it's poor at differentiating.

Let's try this. Russell Wilson led the league in passer rating last year. Andy Dalton was 2nd, 4 points behind. Wilson had an 8-point edge over Tom Brady and an 11-point edge over MVP winner Cam Newton. His lead in the stat over Newton was as big as Newton's over Case Keenum. Should Wilson have been MVP last year? Was Wilson as much better than Newton as Newton was than Case Keenum? Really, I'm interested in your answer to this.

In 2013, Nick Foles led the NFL in passer rating. Enough said.

One or two numbers are not the beginning and end of the conversation.
And did Cam Newton's NFL-best 15-1 record help him last season?

He also ran for a ton of yards/TDs to supplement his passing numbers.

Okay, so passer rating isn't very meaningful. Gotcha.

And sure, his team's record helped him win the award. But that's stupid sportswriters. I was asking what you thought.

You're the one who brought up the Raiders D, not me.

I don't remember this many excuses to discredit Cam Newton last season, who benefited from a dominant defense.

I'm perfectly okay with Cam's MVP last season.

You brought up the D by bringing up point differential.

No, I didn't. Point differential is a team accomplishment, not just the D. The Cowboys have been a much better team than Oakland despite being just 1 game better in the standings.

And the biggest reason for this is our dominant offense, led by our dominant QB.

I'm okay with it as well. He was the best player on the best team, just like Dak this season.

It is meaningful. Just like QBR is and just like your W/L record is.

Dak beats Carr out in all 3 areas. Carr has nothing on Dak, other than excuses for his inferiority.

Reminds me of Steph Curry vs James Harden in 2015.

Curry had the better numbers and his team had the better record, so he won MVP. Harden backers had absolutely no argument other than, "But Curry's team is better!" (Yeah, that's why the Warriors are way better than the Rockets)

Jim Brown in 1957.
Thanks, I was wondering who it was. I was trying to figure it out by thinking of all the good rookies in the past 20 years like Barry sanders or Randy moss. Didn't think to go back that far.

Who cares about MVP, when Romo didn't win it in 2014, it tells me it's a media favorites vote
Never let a Cowboys win
