All Safeties are "weak" in coverage compared to Corners kid .... thats why they are safeties. But 19 int in 6 years is pretty dang good ... even a football dunce like you should be able to see that.

Good Safeties can cover average TE's and receivers in the slot if need be .... Great safeties can even cover Good TE's, WR's, and RB's in space ....

But there is not a safety in the league that can cover Shockey, Burress, Witten, or T.O. one on one ..... and if you think there is you are even dumber than I thought.

IMO? He gets roasted too much for me as a Cowboys fan. I could care less about any safety on another team.

Apparently, the coaches feel the same way, because instead of leaving him in his SS - the position everyone thinks he's so great at - they move him to LB.

The reason Roy has so many freaking tackles, is because, as you've noted, he's a strong safety and "strong safeties don't cover," and "they have to move him close to the line, cuz he's a game- changer" (paraphrasing of course), so I'm fairly certain that in the same position, Hamilin's tackles will rise as well. That said, HE'D ALSO PLAY IN COVERAGE - half of the job responsibilities that Roy can't perform.

That, my friend, would free up Watkins to roam the entire defensive backfield instead of having to compensate for a weak SS.

Run Support + Coverage Skills = COMPLETE SECONDARY.

Read the thread. I actually said Roy had a decent game.

That said, I feel he is the achilles heal.

Anybody with half a football brain knows that a player who can't FULLY (read: no coverage) perform his job responsibility causes his teammates to have to compensate.

Roy is a strong safety. They are usually more for run support. Have you noticed how good our run defense is? Even saying that, we haven't given up too many big plays this year so I guess I just don't see your point. You're arguing that he MAY blow a big game for us, but he has yet to do that.

To answer the question of what do I do with Roy, I start my pro bowl SS every game. Thats what I do.


For people saying start Watkins are you kidding? Do you even remember watkins in coverage when he was starting?


To the guy saying the schemed to get Shockey on Roy, no **** man, you mean a professional football coach schemed to get his Pro Bowl TE matched up on a SS 1 on 1? NO WAY! That would be a really amazing thing if EVERY team in the NFL did not try and scheme to get their TEs in 1 on 1 situations. You think we arent scheming to get Witten 1 on 1 with another teams SS?? I'm one of the more outspoken about Roy but I dont propose anything...Just hope for a good game everytime they play...Who cares at the end of the day, Roy is ouR Boy and really nobody else will probably play better then Him anyways.
