F.O. has failed this offseason

I truly believe the front office has failed us this offseason...here's my reasons.

1. Jason Garrett and his staff got a free pass for last years debacle. its totally inexcusable that this staff could not win without Romo. and whoever the genius was that decided we needed to trade for Cassel is an idiot.
2. The single most glaring need was a decent vet qb after last seasons disgrace, even S.Jones said after the season that backup QB would be a top priority. No action has been taken. None whatsoever!!
3. Free Agency - was a big strike out, we netted nothing other than maybe Thornton to replace Hayden. Mayowa was also signed when the Raiders decided to not to match our offer. Morris was signed also, but was he really needed?
4. The Draft - 1st off Elliott, I like the pick, I don't mind the pick, but in all fairness, we probably should've traded down and tried to maximize that pick, we just have to many needs not too mention we need depth just about everywhere other than OL. The Smith pick was a disaster, one can hope he recovers, just too risky of a pick for us with the current roster we have. i can stomach the rest of the draft.
5. RoMac - why do we continue to put up with this guys crap?
6. Greg Hardy - It amazes me that we continue to turn our back on him, he can be signed to a team friendly one year deal and INSTANTLY be our best DL. It should be a no-brainer since both of our starting DE's are suspended for the first 4 games.

those are just a few thoughts off the top of my head...i am still optimistic about this season, but truthfully a lot of things will have to go our way...with the #1 thing being if this team can stay relatively healthy.

1. You aren't winning anything with scrub QBs. Even winning a game or two doesn't get you to the NFC East crown or esp the SB. Same crew went 12-4 with Romo.
2. There is no one out there.....yet. Someone will get released that MAY help. So hang in there but with no guarantees. You are right to be critical but it isn't easy.
3. No problems with restraint in FA. Generally works out best. Let's see what we got.
4. I would have traded down as well. Maybe no one wanted to pay enough to trade the pick. It's a crap shoot.
5. Ro is a toke away from a year's ban although 10 games is enough for me. I think you can cut him but no reason to right now since he only gets intervention help. You don't get rid of an impact player until you know you aren't cutting your nose off to spite your face. They have a lot of time to figure out his future role if any with the team.
6. Only reason not to take him back is he's more trouble than he's worth. Or Garrett drew a line in the sand which I wouldn't blame much. Personally I'd take him back if he can help me win a title but he'd have little wiggle room.

The same problems remain and have been worsened by the suspensions. We need help up front on defense, the LBing is depth poor and lacking a starter, and I suspect the back end will be better although if we don't get pressure then you will have to look properly to notice it.

Remember that offseason we "won" then went 4-12?

That was fun.

Ok....let me ask you one question....So if Romo was to get injured...what would be different this time around?

They would turn to a quarterback (Moore or Prescott) that has had a full offseason and training camp with the offense. This team signed Matt Cassel in September, gave him a couple weeks, and then turned him loose. That was a mistake. Personally, I think they pulled the plug on Brandon Weeden too soon last year. Not that Weeden was going to be great, just for the reason Cassel was not the answer either.

Failure is a relative thing. It seems a very large contingent of Cowboys fans are of the mind that anything less than a Super Bowl is failure.

Personally, I look for improvement. That is determined after the fact, not before.

Not true. I thought last year's offseason was excellent. With the glaring miss of not having a better backup QB.

Here one goes, Son...

In a tank line, with all turrets swung over the left front fender, grab a ball peen hammer. Go to the first turret that you come upon. Next, start slamming that ball peen on the underside of that turret. When the tank commander comes running up to you...go ahead, stand your ground. When he asks you what the hell you are doing, hold on and tell him, 'I'm looking for soft spots!'

Lol this same F.O. seems to be sticking with McClain, and he is everything you just used to describe Hardy. Hardy also was second in sacks after missing a year of football, and where did you get he wasnt trying?

Sticking with McLain? Drafted his successor, hoped to get a year out of him on an incentive-laden low money deal.

Yeah. Ringing endorsement

Dont reward it. But sign him to a deal that pays for performance. And if he's a slacker and cancer after 4 games when D Law and Gregory return, cut him. We've already taken the PR hit, so what is the downside?

We did that last year. He sucked and didn't work. Why bother again?

Thing is, "decent" vet QBs don't exist. Most veteran QBs resign with their own team if the offer is out there. It makes sense, if they are willing to accept a backup job, why switch teams for similar money and learn a new playbook, build new chemistry with your teammates and win over new coaches? Fact is, the last two years...every decent QB either resigned with their own team or went somewhere else to compete to start.

http://BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1/freeagents2016QB.php

Take a look, this is what was out there this year. Brian Hoyer is the highest ranked QB that accepted a backup job. Is Brian Hoyer better than what we have? Possibly but he wouldn't win much without Romo either. Hoyer's background is much like Moore, he just played more.

Regardless, this is July...absolutely 100% impossible to judge our offseason. In fact, I would rank this offseason above 2014 in every possibly way.

Just call 1-800-backup
Works every time

Coaching is a bigger problem than the FO. But guess who hired them..

This a dumb thread... How does FO fail they failed before a game is played? What if we end up winning the Super Bowl with this roster? Would the FO still have failed us? Thread should be closed

The owner of the NFC Champion Carolina Panthers has gone on record to say that he never interferes in the decision of his GM and coaching staff with one single exception. He forbid the resigning of Greg Hardy.

The Cowboys gave him a chance and nothing short of domination was going to make the gamble worthwhile. If he had come away with 15 sacks for the season I would say lets continue with the experiment despite the baggage, but 6 sacks? 5 solo with 2 assists? Why bother?

As for the Cowboys botching the offseason. Spending big money on veteran free agency is almost always foolish. Think about it. His old team may have wanted him but they certainly weren't impressed enough to offer the big money and nobody knows better then them.

Go ahead, give me some counter examples and I will easily provide a 10 to 1 ratio of misses. So now you've given this guy a huge contract which means you have to start him. So, before training camp has even started, he's got sa huge contract and A starting position. What else does he need. The dishes are done and so is any competitive edge as a result of being pushed by his peers. Many of them are basically stealing one more big contract.

Elliot was the key to the whole offseason, his presence makes evry squad better ijn some sense. There is no guarantee he was going to fall to a lower position for the Cowboys. however, I do believe the drafting of Smith was extremely foo9lish. The Cowboys had a 2nd round pick that was only 4 picks away from being another 1st rounder, don't gamble that pick when the Cowboys need real help. That was a luxury pick the Cowboy could not afford. Perhaps jhe turns out okay.....you know, like Bruce Carter? Even if he heals to the doctor's expectation he will never be the same player. So yeah, dumb move when you could have drafted a potential starter this year on this defense.
