I agree we could have been more aggressive this offseason in filling needs, but I also think the sentiment around the front office is were closer to 12-4 than 4-12.
Regarding backup QB, Weeden and Cassel werent terrible backup options and we saw Weeden go on to win games in Houston. The coaching staff just did a poor job adjusting the game plan for both these QBs. In addressing the backup QB position this offseason, there really wasnt much in free agency to make a play for. We attempted to trade up for a QB in the draft, but it didnt workout.
DE defitinetly could have been addressed this offseason and is the one position I fault the FO for not making a serious move on. They could have targeted Mario Williams, or atleast grabbed Chris Long as insurance for a modest deal.
I initially thought we should bring Hardy back too, but the decision is now based far beyond the negative media attention of last season. If it was solely about the off the field incident and not what occured in the locker room then I do think he would be back. After assessing the situation further I have no issue with the FO decision.
I agree that Romac should be released, you would think he would have learned something from his 4 game suspension last offseason. Its clear he doesnt care enough about football and should be cut.
There is no doubt that the coaches and front office think that the reason for the 4-12 season was Romo's injury and if he stays healthy, that the team will be Super Bowl contenders with him this year. I think they was not nearly aggressive enough in improving the roster this offseason due to that thinking. There is a good chance it will come back to haunt them.
